cmatthes
This was the first Hamer I remember seeing in magazines, and most notably, prominently featured in the collage of the “At Budokan” album gatefold. Since Rick pretty much retired it from the road in 1980-81, I never got to see it played onstage, despite seeing it up close and personal in Rockford. On Thursday night I got to check out the Nielsen Trust with the fantastic Nick Perri and the Underground Thieves opening. Nick Perri actually had more guitars onstage than Rick did, as Rick is just taking out his main ‘50s Burst that has been on every album since 1977, a 59 Reissue and #0000. Jokes aside, who did you know to get that close and grab a shot of the guitar between songs in the set? There's a story there too.
Steve Haynie
It is nice to know that the guitar is played rather than being set aside in a vault forever.
cmatthes
Rick’s tech said that it had been retired from the road because it was just too important to him, yet he still takes out the ‘58 and ‘59 Bursts and the one that he’s played on every album. I’m assuming that one gets its own seat in First Class? He isn’t getting any younger, so…what the hell? Besides, his regular touring guitars are in storage, split between the two CT touring rigs. He said that Rick was really having fun playing that one live again.
