Fender Reverb Shop

Received an email from Reverb  - Fender has opened a Reverb Shop.   What in the world?

Why didn't they just open a direct online shopping at Fender.com?

I would assume it is in direct competition with guitar stores no matter how you look at it.  "Save up to $250 on your next piece of gear - free shipping and 14-day returns included.

What am I missing?

They probably get in front of more guitar players going through Reverb.

Someone who makes a truckload of money probably did all of the calculations and figured it was worth it.

Joke's on them, though, once they find out how many Reverb users are just BAMFs with a guitar porn fetish.

Watch this recent video on the Fender layoffs. Dylan - great YouTube channel by the way - does a great job of explaining the $$$ and "whys" of the situation, and he shares inside source information that FMIC is subsequently sitting on HUGE overstocks of Asian, Indonesian and MIM products they HAVE to move ASAP. I did a quick scan of the Reverb page's offerings, and it surely backs the surplus inventory claims.

Fender is also offering incredible discounts on overstock gear for FMIC employees. A FMIC-owned company is based in my city, and I'm the go-to fretted repair/upgrade workshop for its employees. A steady flow of new MIC, MII, MIM guitars have been coming my way in recent times for setups, and the pieces are moving at cost or not to much more than cost. Not demos, not seconds, not factory reconditions ... they are minty clean with all manufacturing candy and clearly overstocks. The last piece I serviced was a shockingly nice quality Chinese-made acoustic. I forget the model number, but the paper soundbox label's SN line was blank, never inked, so never logged. My client told me he paid $40 for it.

How’s the quality of the current MIM Fenders these days…?

So, they lay them off and then offer them a discount on the surplus gear that they themselves made which caused them to be laid off.

So they're laying off American workers but still making guitars in Mexico... way to go Fender! 🤬

Umm... who else is going to make the Mexican Fenders?

Who cares? I never buy anything new from Fender.

I have a hard time understanding why anyone around here would buy a new anything from fender. I can see used, but why support a company that buried the company we all claim to love? Especially when you can find the same item barely used in almost every pawn shop or internet sales site you go to.

It will be interesting to see how the sellers at Reverb respond to having the big f competing with them.

Maybe the Fender employees outside the USA are next to lose jobs.  Are the Chinese and Indonesian Fenders made by contractors who make other brands?

never buy 'new' guitars ever, if I can help it.  They're like new cars, buy them, use them, and the 'value' drops.  I let someone else pay for that privilege, and I occasionally try to snag one on the 'used' market.  I just bought a Fender 'partscaster' Strat from DGS last week that has a practically new MIM '60's replacement body and '70's MIM replacement neck, Callaham vintage Strat bridge assembly, a Fender CS '69 PU set, 'F' tuners, and all the correct parts to make a complete Strat, for roughly the cost of what buying the replacement neck and body from Fender alone would have cost.  And I didn't have to put it together, somebody else did that, and it's a keeper! B)

Being that the ethnic majority of Corona, CA is Hispanic, I would have assumed that the USA Fenders were already being made by Mexicans. I mean...that's indicated right there in the city's name, for crissakes.

You mean, like how Fender guitars were being made by Hispanic employees like Tadeo Gomez back in the '50's? Or pickups wound by Abigail Ybarra?  Or currently made by Josefina Campos?

Senor Crunchee, we Mexi-talian Californios just say: “‘spanic.”

“‘spanicX” is also acceptable. Gracias!

That is exactly what I was indicating. Anybody who grew up in Southern California in the 60s &  70s as I did knows everything beneath the grapevine  (and even above it) is pretty much considered occupied Mexico anyways. When the MIM Fenders became desirable years ago, I couldn't understand why people were so surprised. The pride in the workmanship of the Corona guitars was already established in Fullerton by the same family lines. So why not "MbyM"? Seems to fit nicely into our modern globalist melting pot inclinations anyways.

Not a political post, so hey mods, don't toss me like you just did over on the Hamer USA FB page yesterday ...

I once asked the what the difference was between Mexican Fenders and U.S.A. Fenders. I was told Mexican Fenders were made by Mexicans in Mexico and U.S.A. Fenders were made by Mexicans in California. I was so confused. Now... I understand.
