I'll Admit it I'm Overwhelmed

Recommended Posts

A lot of people in this boat. We're spoiled people with first world problems; just too much crap!

Maybe 10 years ago I  was burning out on my job and looking for other possibilities. I had a lot of rich customers always buying new furniture and stuff and not sure what to do with all the old stuff. So, I thought I'd investigate an eBay selling service. I was selling and buying a lot at the time.

I would go to there house take inventory of what they wanted to sell, take notes etc. Post the ads etc. Have the winners contact the owners to arrange pickup, or I could setup shipping etc.or, have options the owner could select on what they wanted to do, if anything.  Basically just be the middle man.

I even went to a big, multi day eBay conference in ATL. I met a guy who got into eBay buying and selling vintage drums. He then started selling survival gear, prepper gear, outdoor gear from the company his wife worked at and started making real money. It eventually turned into his main biz and he also moved into an actual storefront too.

I was enthused for awhile. I got positive feedback from some of my customers wanting me to do it. But, I eventually decided that it would just be a CF and decided against it.

Back then I did see a couple eBay listing stores where you brought your stuff to them. But, I don't see them anymore.

Typically, I will list on CL & FB marketplace for several months, then whatever didn't sell will take the 40% hit @ GC or Music-Go-Round. I lump gear buying & selling in with my gig money, so it doesn't hurt much when I look at the whole year's profits and losses. Most of my stuff is also "workmans stuff", so I no longer deal with shipping or Ebay (sole exception was my Kiesel, a guy on the west coast saw my local CL ad and made it worth my effort to ship). Good luck!

Kick it old school and have a yard sale. Whatever doesn't sell, take it to GC. What's left after that, donate it. Finally, be honest about what probably belongs in your trash receptacle and deposit it there.

We had a yard sale maybe 15-20 years ago.

I will NEVER deal with those BAMF'ers again.  I'd rather throw shit away or haul it to the landfill myself.

It's like the worst possible human elements all combine to form the cretins that crawl from their lairs before the first rays of the dawn to stalk for some precious, glittery items, for which they are willing to trade a small pebble, or perhaps a clump of matted hair.

Fcuk yard sales.

You ain't wrong! But the BAMFers you describe aren't much different than the typical online guitar nerd. In fact, the only difference is you don't actually have to see the guitar nerd in person (which would make it preferable if not for the shipping hassles, fees, and the policies that are all skewed toward the buyer).

The flip side of yard sales is sometimes you find a real bargain. I paid $175 for one of these at a garage sale once upon a time.

Huge difference in going to a to a yard sale and having a yard sale. 😄
