NGD- Charvel MJ So-Cal San Dimas

In what can only be interpreted as yet another sign of the impending end of the world, I bought another Charvel, this one with a boring white finish, normal headstock, a middle pick up (for now ) and a Gotoh Floyd!

I'll give you a second get over your shock.

Now, on to the real shocker: this thing is f*cking awesome!! I'm stunned with the quality and craftsmanship!

The dirt:

Japanese-made So-Cal style San Dimas

alder body

maple neck and board

24 jumbo frets (come on, you didn't think I'd forgo ALL of my spec requirements, did you?)

SD TB-4 JB/SSL-6 x 2

Gotoh 1996T Floyd

Gotoh sealed tuners

I'm digging this ax a lot! It eclipses the Mexi- Pro Mod DK24 I bought 2 weeks ago. It feels great, is fast and full of tone. The neck is fantastic! The workmanship is on f-ing point. The Gotoh 1996T is the real surprise. Though I know they're high quality units, I always had meh experience with them. This one seems to be well set up and plays so well that I can even forgive the bar sitting so high in the arm receiver on the baseplate.  

Initial reaction is quite favorable and if it makes it through the honeymoon/vetting period, it's gonna get a modest overhaul- new pickguard with an H/Sustainiac set up, a 3 way toggle switch, and the pots replaced with a smoother, lower friction CTS volume and a kill switch/tone.

Then I'm gonna get it painted with some garish and appalling color. 🤣

Other than Hendrix's Olympic white Strat, I think it's fair to say I don't have a thing for white guitars.

I've eyeballing these MIJ ones as well so I'm here for the review 100%

I too do not have a thing for white instruments but with this, hey just stripe it out with black electrical tape go for it!

Nah, no tape but I am going to get it painted up in an eye-searing 80's-esque color.
