1980 Special

David B,

Even if it was all original in mint condition, almost no one on this board would

want to pay what is worth regardless.Congrats, and have fun with the guitar.

I thought about snagging that. Thanks for keeping me from spending the cash. /emoticons/default_wink.png Look at it this way, if you're happy with the guitar you got at the price you paid, then it was worth it, regardless of what anyone else thinks.

For what it's worth, I've seen trashed Special hulks in far worse condition (one still broken, one missing the headstock ENTIRELY!) go for well over $200, so I'm thinking those days of something like that one not being a good deal are pretty much behind us. Sure, you can still find an original Special for less than a grand, but if it's the right deal at the right time for anybody, it's a good deal.

Exactly.

I was only saying what I think it's worth. If it's worth twice that to someone else, then fine.

As jisham says, "Y.M.M.V."

I've probably bought around 30 to 40 Hamers for less than $400 (very few with repaired headstocks) so I understand some of the point of veiws on this guitar. I just don't see many deals like that anymore. I was a little iffy about getting this one, but I think it's a fair deal, especially with the free shipping he gave me. The sustain block looks clean, the Grovers look clean, the pickups should sound & look great with creme rings (although I would prefer the original pickups). I think I want to make a project guitar out of this one & I may need some HFC help. I'll let everybody know if it's a piece of shit or a mojo filled, tone monster that plays like butter.

Guys, why piss in someone's cornflakes? It's STILL a shitload of guitar for four bills.
Where was the cornflake pissing, Dave?
I was specifically referring to Peedenmark's post. David B already posted that he bought the guitar for $399 and Peedenmark proceeded to piss in his cornflakes essentially telling him he way overpaid.

Got it today, plays & sounds good. I'm gonna refinish this one though. It'll make a fun project. The neck pickup is an original Dimarzio, the ebay add said it was a Duncan.

In parts alone, it's probably worth close to the asking price. The last Hamer zebra neck that sold went for almost $75.

I'll probably sell the pickups & sustain block. I have a new sustain block that I'll likely put on there. I really want to try & refinish this. Any ideas on colors guys??

1980 Special is a 1981 Special #1 2869. I had a feeling, so I striped the paint carefully & found the #.
