Eclipse Mods?

I have a 96 with a Lollar mini hum in the neck and a Klein mini in the bridge with a push-pull pot to split to one coil. Never heard a stock USA Eclipse, I got this one pre-modified, but I really like the option to spllt the bridge pup. Adds a new sound with a lot of contrast to the other positions.

I also own a stock Slammer Series Eclipse with the Kent Armstrong firebird pickups. These pickups are fairly legit... a bit hotter and more diffuse than vintage FB pups and less defined than the swank mini-hums in my '96. The neck on the Slammer is reminiscent of the USA 96 but a little bit thicker, which I appreciate. All in all, it is really a solid, great playing guitar. I have the vintage version of the stock Duncans in the US and thinking about throwing those in the Slammer. I have an SM-1N in a tele and it is a good pickup.

The Slammer Series Eclipse might be the real killer deal of the century. Yeah, the USA is nicer but I paid more than 200 bills for that one. /emoticons/default_tongue.png

Murkat gave me a very simple rewire that made the gnarly characteristic in the Eclipse more manageable. It made the tone control behave more linear.

There are plenty of knobs on the amp to trim the tone into your "happy place".

I have no issue with the orig Wilky single slider bridge. Its still there.

I mailed Murkat a while ago regarding the mod. This was what the guitarguru replied:

"

just swap the location of the tone cap and output wire.

stock~

tone cap outside lug

output wire middle lug

mod~

tone cap middle lug

output wire outside lug

"

This is what it looks like original. Like mine. I haven't bothered to mess with it, as it sounds great as it.

But you should move the cap to the middle lug, and the red wires to the lug that had the cap originally, the outside one.

A pic of the Eclipse after the Murkat mod plus a push/push coil tap:

Love mine. I'm considering modding it to a two volume control setup (I rarely use any tone control on any guitar anyway). No extra holes, more control, reversible.

I guess I'm the odd man out on the pickups. I like 'em. I'm not after sparkly/chimey, though. To me, the rude, fat gnarly thing is what it does best. It seems to want to bust into some southern-fried rock whenever I fire it up.
I like'em myself; mine is stock.

I have an Eclipse. I have the SD Antiquities installed & it sounds like a million $!

Was considering a new tailpiece because the Wilky doesn't get a lot of love.

That is a fine looking guitar! I need to own another Eclipse someday. I put Dimarzio minihumbuckers on the one I had. LIke them a lot more than the stock pickup to me. Other than that, there's really nothing that needs to be changed.

Has anyone else noticed how crazy the prices have been for these on sleezebay lately? Great guitars for sure, but not $1000+ guitars.
I've noticed. The simplicity must be very attractive to some folks. Your run-of-the-mill Shredder today has more switches than the Space Shuttle.

I wouldn't say that. It's not as if any are selling at those crazy prices.
