How do I make an mp3?

I have an audio CD of a few of my band's new songs I'd like to be able to share with the HFC's headbanger community.

How do I convert the tracks to mp3? Or do I want to go to a wave file? And I guess I have to host it somewhere, right? Where?

I've used iTunes and Music Match Jukebox to convert CD tracks to MP3s.

You can host MP3s on your HFC member page. I have several on mine with room for more.

you need to convert the WAV file to an MP3 , there are numerous free programs out there ( of a free trial that will burn a certain number of tracks for evaluation ), just google MP3 burner , then I can host it if you need me to, or I think there is space on your HFC members page to do this.

You can create a myspace account for your band, and generate publicity and host 4 songs. www.myspace.com. That's what my band's have done. There are several programs avaliable online to convert to .mp3 that somebody else can fill you in on- I just use Real Player (put the cd in, open RP, and rip the cd to your computer after selecting ".mp3" as the file type in options)

Good luck, can't wait to hear the stuff!

I think MusicMatch stuff is in the PC at home, we got a Dell last fall with all kinds of software inside when we got it. I'll see what I can do tonight. Thanks!

You can also use the newer version of windows media player to rip a regular audio CD to mp3 files.

Yep, it's built into Windows already. As long as you've donr all the Windows updates for Media player.

Are there any differences in various programs for mp3 making as far as detail/quality?

for all my conversion I use dBpowerAMP, can convert batches of files, you control bitrate (*this* is what affects audio quality), and new files can get copies for IDv- tagging. The best, it's free and there are add-ons for iTunes (mp4/aac) and streaming formats online
