Anyone have a Jay Monterose built "Vintique" brand guitar? How are they? I'm thinking about going to look at a used Telecaster he built but don't know if its worth the trip or the money if I like it.

I had one. It was a fantastic guitar and I wish I still had it, but I was approached by someone who wanted to buy it when I needed money and I sold it.

Quality build

Great figured maple neck...thick all the way up but super playable

Barden pickups...which I happen to love...lots of power and lots of tone variety

great super thin transparent finish.

It was my absolutely ideal Tele

I saw reference to a Vintique-modded MIJ Tele at chrisguitars.com today that showed their neck bolt upgrade. It uses metal screws that go into metal whatchamacallit sleeve things mounted in the neck.

GREAT idea for necks with the truss rod adjustment at the body - I have to pull the neck frequently to mess with the truss rod and that would fix worries about stripping the screw holes in the neck taking it on and off.

If you want a Tele there's probably none better.

A friend of mine in the States (a serious Tele buff who owns a couple of 50s models) has one and thinks it's the best Tele they've ever played; great build quality. awesome sound & great vintage vibe.
