Ovations anyone?

As I sit here strumming my Balladeer Special, I got to thinking whether other Hamer enthusiasts like their acoustic's in the Ovation variety. When I got my Ovation a few years ago, I had no idea what a great intsrumental I'd get for under $500. USA made, sounds amazing plugged in, decent pre-amp (op-24+)... made the Martin and Tak's in the price range laughable. Has my favorate neck of any guitar- unfinished Mahogany neck. It's just a no-frills guitar that gets almost as much playing time as my Hamer... Anyone else?

One of the nicest sounding and playing acoustics I've ever played, my Adamas SMT.

It's got an amazingly deep, woody tone with zingy high end. All the more impressive considering it's an instrument with a top made of synthetic material. And I'm talking about its tone when NOT plugged in.

I have an older blonde model 1867 (Legend ?) for new standard tuning. It does that job well, but I have to say, it gets played less than any of my other guitars nowadays. I am mostly in electric mode and usually reach for my archtop acoustic before the Ovation.

Hey acoustic guitar owners,

I love Ovation guitars!! I think their 6 and 12 strings are the most stageworthy guitars ever made. Unfortunately, I have an Ibanez acoustic-electric that I bought for cheap. If I had the ducats in my budget, I would definitely get the higher end Ovation or the Adamas series acoustic 6 and 12 string guitars in my collection.

I'm gigging tonight with my Custom Legend. Why? Because it's GREEN!!!!

Otherwise, I have guitars that sound better acoustically and plugged it. It does play like buttah though.

I have an Ovation Elite (1868..super shallow bowl, natural finish...'cuz natural is the only 'right' finish for an O), as well as an Applause (Ovation's Korean concern) koa uke with palm tree cutouts (only 40 made, great little preamp...very cool). On the Hamer side, I have the '96 Studio. All of which kick the sh1t out of the alternatives. Then again, I may be biased...

I was an Ovation fan before I was a Hamer fan. I have an Elite-T right now, their no-frills model with all the stuff that matters .. ebony board and bridge, solid-spruce, nice electronics, etc. The action on it is unbelievable for an acoustic. A 12-string is next on my list after the Monaco I have on order.

Balladeer Special for me as well. I too like the unfinished mahogany neck...reminds me of a fat electric neck...not your typical acoustic neck profile, it's nice...

Does Ovation make ADAMAS? /emoticons/default_blink.png This is me #1 Acoustic; (even w/3 martins in the house)

Yes, O makes Adamas. Top of the line stuff. The new ones coming out sound like they're going to kick serious ass. If you haven't joined the Ovation Fan Club, you owe it to yourself to check it out. The wealth of knowledge is incredible and it's an all around great bunch of owners.

I have a 2000 elite 1868, black with the 5 piece

neck, built in tuner etc... It's a different vibe but

I've gotten some really professional studio quality

playing straight into my digital recorder...
