RIP DIO

Contrary to published reports, legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW) **has not** died after a six-month battle with stomach cancer.

After rumors started circulating via the Internet late Saturday that Dio had lost his cancer fight, BLABBERMOUTH.NET reached out to Ronnie's wife/manager Wendy Dio, who sent back the following message at approximately 11:35 p.m. PST on Saturday, May 15 / 2:35 a.m. EST on Sunday, May 16:

"I am at the hospital and Ronnie has NOT passed away!!!! He is not doing

good, but he is not dead.

"I will let you know if anything changes.

"Thank you for your concern."

Hope this story has a happy ending. Dio was a game changer in the hard rock world. I use to see him way back in the day with Elf playing small clubs before he hit it big.

GodSpeed Ronnie.

Get well soon.

That being said, the media is like the next version of Windows.

You need to wait before you by the crap.

In this case the bogus story.

Guys, you need to start hitting kikaxemusic.com for your music news. Unlike many of the other sites, my guys are all wired straight into the music pro community and get the real deal.

Stomach cancer is serious business, so I wish Ronnie the best.

It was a matter of time, to bad it was that short:(

RIP and god bless with Wendy and the family

Jeroen

Black Sabbath's Heaven and Hell was one of those rare releases where a replacement lead singer has done justice to a band in the debut release for the new vocalist. It takes some other singers years, and more than one album, to carve out their own niche (if they even do it at all) but Dio had me - and probably a lot of others - asking "Ozzy who?" (particularly since Never Say Die was such a clunker.

Like many others, I'd first heard Dio in Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, and he always seemed to go after a performance 100%.

RIP
