Still too expensive with a headstock repair and non-original pickups.

I didn't think that was too bad, actually!

As long as it plays well and the repair is stable, it could be a good workhorse for the price of an import (??).

You mean like THIS import?

I wonder. Looks pretty good.

I'm not really interested. I prefer the newer Hamers.

Well, at $399, it's at least $49 too expensive for you, so who do you think you're kidding?

non original pickups, tuners and case... which would then lead most to check the control cavity to see if the orginal electronics were robbed from it..

Just love those checkerboard headstocks. They just scream with attiude. As far as the pickups go, it seems to me everybody on the HFC experiments with different ones and are always ripping them out and adding new ones.

Sure, a lot of guys replace the stock DiMarzios, but the fact is the guitar is worth less without them.

In this case of this Special, not only is it almost devoid of originality, it's been broken as well.

I wouldn't go a penny over $200 on this one.

After you get it, let me know how it plays. I bet that is a player. And for that price it is probably better than an import. It just need a little tender loving care.

I let the board know how it is.

I agree with kiz $200 tops ...if that..

if it had a clean ohsc , I'd have bought it for parts and off'd the naked hulk...

but $400 for a repaired headstock, totally strippped special without the ohsc... no way...

Well, I just bought it for $399 & free shipping.  I may refinish this one.

It's still a lot of quality for $400. Could be a fun project to return to original or you could customize it and make it your own. Whoever called it a player is right.......they should all be players or whats the point. Kick some serious ass with that Special, they're great guitars!

Edited to add: Red Trans is a cool color...I'd leave it.

I couldve used the grovers on it... but they werent 100% correct for what I am doing..

if they were bullseyes,I couldve found a use for the guitar and again off'd the hulk ;)

I love trans red too, I might leave it. The back of the headstock looks so nasty though.

Guys, why piss in someone's cornflakes?

It's STILL a shitload of guitar for four bills.

Thanks Dave.

Where was the cornflake pissing, Dave?

I thought about snagging that. Thanks for keeping me from spending the cash. ;) Look at it this way, if you're happy with the guitar you got at the price you paid, then it was worth it, regardless of what anyone else thinks.

For what it's worth, I've seen trashed Special hulks in far worse condition (one still broken, one missing the headstock ENTIRELY!) go for well over $200, so I'm thinking those days of something like that one not being a good deal are pretty much behind us. Sure, you can still find an original Special for less than a grand, but if it's the right deal at the right time for anybody, it's a good deal.

Exactly.

I was only saying what I think it's worth. If it's worth twice that to someone else, then fine.

As jisham says, "Y.M.M.V."

I've probably bought around 30 to 40 Hamers for less than $400 (very few with repaired headstocks) so I understand some of the point of veiws on this guitar. I just don't see many deals like that anymore. I was a little iffy about getting this one, but I think it's a fair deal, especially with the free shipping he gave me. The sustain block looks clean, the Grovers look clean, the pickups should sound & look great with creme rings (although I would prefer the original pickups). I think I want to make a project guitar out of this one & I may need some HFC help. I'll let everybody know if it's a piece of shit or a mojo filled, tone monster that plays like butter.

I was specifically referring to Peedenmark's post. David B already posted that he bought the guitar for $399 and Peedenmark proceeded to piss in his cornflakes essentially telling him he way overpaid.
