Jackson Appreciation Thread

Here is the Soloist Archtop I mentioned earlier. I was an amazing guitar in every respect. Fit and finish were impeccable and it was an amazingly versatile instrument.

Jeff I've read that the guitar Vinnie had was actually slated to be for Randy Rhoads, hence the stuff like the real early, handwritten logo, but they didn't have it finished before he passed away, and Vinnie was able to buy it when they completed it.

Yep, heard that story, never confirmed on the record by Grover to my knowledge but I'm inclined to believe it by comparing the timelines of Randy's tenure with Jackson guitars, his death and Vinnie's appearance with a Rhoads.

Another 2010 NAMM "first five" guitar is a black Rhoads with a non-locking strat trem that was built for Randy but wasn't delivered before his death. The original one had a neck tilt alignment issue in regard to the bridge, and Grover shipped it off the "blank" to a case company to use as a template for case production. When he got the blank back, it sat in storage for years and years unfinished. A big Jackson collector who knew Grover eventually got the blank, got the alignment issue fixed or overcome, and had the guitar finished by the factory. Another Jackson enthusiast has it now.

Here's the reissue ...

Jackson TBird matched pair topped from same piece of flame maple. Originally made for Brian Wheat of Tesla with Gibson '60s headstocks to piss off the boys in Nashville.

Sort of related to this topic...the only Hamer ever done with Jackson sharkfin inlays. Unfortunately, still missing since the late '90s.

Don't forget about the one that was supposed to be part of the lot for Randy that was on display at NAMM and Grover's wife accidently sold to someone right out of the display.. that guitar resurfaced for sale maybe two years ago or so? The guy had even posted video of him playing the guitar and iirc there was a huge thread that ran on the JCF about that guitar.. can't remember if he actually sold it or knee jerked and pulled it/decided to keep it.

Was that the guy that looked like Donal Louge? Charging ridiculous amounts of money for copies of a RR lesson transcript or something? I can't remember...

Jeff that Rhoads is awesome too, I remember reading a seminar with Randy in Guitar World or something, and he said that apparently he had this guy set up his tremolos on his polka dot V and his Jackson V, and that afterward they stayed in tune so well that he didn't need a Floyd Rose...I guess that is why that one has the Fender-style bridge on it.

IIRC, the guy said it's been his personal favorite and wasn't for sale, but he wasn't ruling out sale in the future for mega bucks.

That'd be the one..he'd gotten some really serious offers $$$..but he kept pulling back and raising the ceiling.. got the impression that he either had NO intention of selling/ was just dangling the carrot or wanted some unreal amount for it.

My local GC has a used RR1 on the wall. May go by and take a test drive on it today to make sure a Rhoads is still a good fit for me before I bite on one of the gold "first five" guitars 'cause it won't be cheap!

My first "V" guitar was a Rhoads and the short treble-side wing spoiled me for playing comfort both sitting and standing. Sitting, you can wedge it in a classical position and it works unbelievably incredible as a player. Part of Randy's reconfig on a traditional V shape perhaps? Standing up, it's just sleeker on the body and more ergometric if that makes sense.

For the record, if a "first five" doesn't pan out, I haven't ruled out picking up a non-booteek-y Rhoads and getting Stike to do some goldflake glitter magic on it.

Or maybe "Dorothy There's-No-Place-Like-Home Ruby Ass Red Slippers" Big Flake Glitter Red magic /emoticons/default_ph34r.png

You've all seen this one, but this was my Jackson. I don't have many guitar sales regrets, but I wish I had held onto this one.

Great quality, great Floyd, sleeksex neck, great sounds. It really was a winner.

Damn.

I have to keep curbing my desire to get something "shredder". I have had shredders before, and can never get my head around the double locking tremolos. Heck i have trouble with ANY kind of trem. I know they make hardtail versions, but the USA models are still kinda pricey for my tastes, even used.

It's funny: I have read from many top builders that contrary to what many people believe a good Floyd Rose set up correctly stays in tune better than a stop tail piece or other non-floating bridges.

Personally with amount of wide vibrato I do I tend to agree.

Just about every electric I have has a Floyd - I love 'em and I don't use the whammy bar hardly ever. I just love the bridges.

Here's mine. I really got it for its graphic, but I can't play guitars with trems worth a damn. If anyone wants to take it off my hands, make an offer.

I have a hakering for a shredder, and I'm thinking about doing a custom-order Rhoads. I tried one before Christmas just to make sure I could live with the shape, but off the rack, they don't have quite the configuration I want.

I may look at the first five thing, but they're doing a replica of Randy's white guitar that's way out of my league - $12k+.

I don't shred well enough for that!

Alan

This is my first Jackson. A 2009 PC1 auNatural. Ive had a few Charvel's over the years but nothing as nice as this one...

I have some experience with Jacksons.

Last one is a Custom Shop Reverse Body Style Demon - absolutely one of the most killer guitars I have ever seen.
That black one looks like it is suspended in the air.. if that ain't mojo.. hehehe.. nice collection! Had a Dinky (XL I think it was) before I understood Floyds, so I got rid of it because I couldn't get it in tune. Should not have done that.. great guitars!

Got me one of these with a TV Jones TV Tron in the bridge - Love it!

sc1ti.jpg
Been Jonesin' for a Surfcaster ever since I first saw them!

I have a catalog from '94-'95 that has some odd shapes - I always liked the Kellys as well.. I have never seen one with a mini humbucker though.. NICE!

Save for my acoustic and an old Peavey bass, every one of my axes has a Floyd or Floyd derivative (Edge, Schaller) Contrary to Shredmeister, I DO use the bar- alot- either for subtle coloring of the pitch or for flat out, extreme dive bombs, wide vibrato, wicked pull ups, trills, and a whole host of wacky and weird effects. I'm not Vai, Stevens or Van Halen but the bar is integral to my style and Jacksons, with the right locking trem, stands pretty much neck and neck with my beloved Hamer Diablo for that style of playing.

Here's mine. I really got it for its graphic, but I can't play guitars with trems worth a damn. If anyone wants to take it off my hands, make an offer.

If that body was routed and the Floyd set to float, I'd take it in a heartbeat- tree-fiddy? /emoticons/default_ph34r.png

Seriously, I'd snag that save for the flat mount trem.... Freakin' beautiful.
