Guest slim Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 Got a set of EMGs (81/85). Anyone ever put a set of these in a special or SB (either of them with a sustain block)? What was the result? Anyone care to speculate on the results? I've got them in my FrankenSATF right now (they're WAY better than the ones it came with), but I'm thinking of relocating them to a better neighborhood...Like P.F.'s 82 black special I will be aquiring tomorrow when the UPS truck arrives. Thanks. Slim
Jon_Press Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 Laura has an '81 Special with those p/u's. She bought it that way and it is her only guitar with EMG's. It has no sustain block and an after market floyd rose. It actaully sounds really good, but we would have never thought to do those things if it were original. Then again, it wouldn't have been $300 either. If you can just swap the pick ups without any modifications, I guess try it. If you'd have to cut or drill, I don't know . . .
tgoss Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 EMG's are incredibly versatile pickups. More and more of my customers are getting them installed in all kinds of guitars. In fact, just this morning a guy brought in a late 80's Guild NightBird (which had them as an optional install) gold hardware & a spruce top that sounded absolutely fantastic. It's for sale too if anyone is interested.
