I was a recycled single for eight years before re-marrying (2 years first time, but 20 + years this time), and one of the reasons my first marriage failed was that my rock band "hobby" turned into an "obsession"/"escape". Methinks that's more apt to occur w/ men than women---golf, hunting, fishing, etc. and I know of other examples besides me. I resolved to get various portions of my life in order, did so, and as far as I'm concerned the Missus is the only wife I've ever had (and she was also divorced, and feels the same way about me as her husband). I still buy, sell, and play, but have the right perspective and the wherewithal not to go overboard. It helps to note, however, that the divorce rate among musicians (full-time or part-time) is 80-something percent (source: A college sociology professor I consulted). Believe or not, GAS can be controlled, but maybe you have to go thru some rough patches to learn such. Been there, done that.

Your band turning into an "obsession" is a good thing if you're happy doing it and it helps pay some bills. If not, then yeah, I can see it turn into an "escape".

And yes, GAS can be controlled....don't buy what you don't need! You gotta ask yourself, "Do I really need that guitar, pedal,etc..?" Moderation and the right perspective, brother!
