jerseydrew Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 Before ebay. Here's a great Tele Thinline with upgrades. Below is what my ebay listing will say if it doesn't sell here first. This is the guitar Fender should have built when they introduced the Thinline in 1969. It's an MIM ash body with 3-tone sunburst, put together with a stunning Crafted in Japan '62 Reissue neck. That's a huge improvement over the standard MIM sticky maple neck, but that's just where the good stuff starts. The MIM '60s style pickups are gone, replaced with Fender Custom Shop Nocaster pups. The '69-style bridge with steel saddles is replaced with a '52 style bridge with brass saddles. And the 1 Meg pots Fender normally uses (why...?) have been replaced with MIA 250K pots, along with MIA 3-way switch and jack. To complete the visual feast, the standard mother of toilet seat pickguard is replaced with a vintage style mint green 3-ply. So why do all this? Because the MIM '69 Thinline reissue is a major league ice pick in the eardrums. And the skinny, sticky neck is almost unplayable on the new reissues--especially when your hand sweats. The fret ends are sharp and very tough to play, especially at fast speeds. This guitar weighs an amazingly low 6.5 lbs on my non-official digital bathroom scale. This guitar is in near mint condition – 9.5 out of 10. And to keep it that way, it comes with the classy tweed Fender hardshell case. Also includes a tweed strap and straplocks. Let’s see how much money is in this guitar: MIM Thinline Tele w/ GIG BAG $699.00????? Fender Custom Shop NoCaster Pickups $125.00 Real Fender Tweed Hardshell Case $149.00 Saddle, Mint Green pickguard, pots & asst. stuff $75.00 If you were to make these changes, the guitar would cost you over $1000.00 and you’d still be stuck with the old crappy neck. $775 shipped and insured via Fedex ground in the lower states. $700 shipped and insured via Fedex ground in the lower states with a gig bag instead of the Fender Tweed Hardshell case.
