Jamie K Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Craig-In your estimation, what is the break-up point on that speaker relative to a Celestion Vintage 10"? I have a Dr. Z 2x10 (18 watts, much of which I bleed off with a Dr. Z Power Brake attenuator) and have toyed with the idea of mismatching one of its Celestions with a different speaker, but never knew quite where to start. I believe the Celestions are 60 watters. Any thoughts?Jamie
halide Posted January 25, 2006 Author Posted January 25, 2006 i don't have any celestions to compare to but i thought most of them (celestions) break up sooner than other speaker brands. supposedly the alnicos have a smoother top end and compress more when pushed so they don't come off as harsh as some ceramics. hope that helps. chere is the quote from the weber pageReplacement for Vox and Marshall AlNiCo 10's10", 11oz AlNiCo plug magnet, 20 or 30 watts, 1-1/4" voice coil, ribbed cone.Bright, chimey, later/smooth breakup, aggressive, articulate, compressed at high volume.
Jamie K Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Thanks Teefus. I probably need something less efficient that will break up sooner than the Celestions to get what I'm after...they are too dang loud and clean for my tastes, even attenuated. I suppose I could disconnect one of the Celestions (wired in parallel) and run the other from the 16 ohm jack to get a flavor for how less-efficient speakers would sound?
