cordroad Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 Have decided to sell these. NOS RCA branded Mullards from the late 70's - early 80's Japanese manufacture. Have the cross hatch seams on the top of the glass. The lettering on the glass is all but gone but it appears to read GTR BRI or T.... also the letttering RCA with ET underneath in orange . Plain black base. solid spotter pin. From what I can find on the net RCA never made EL34's but rather had them made and box branded by Mullard. In any case, they have about 15 minutes on them, long enough to be biased in my Musicman amp. I paid $60.00 for the pair. I'll ship for $60.00 for the pair. Here are some pics and a website.http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e344/cor...imspicstubes002http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e344/cor...icstubes001.jpgwww.audiotubes.com/el34.htm Please feel free to PM or email with questions. Bigred Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 How did they sound in your MM amp compared to what you used before these?
cordroad Posted May 25, 2006 Author Posted May 25, 2006 When I bought the amp it was running a pair of old Sylvania big bottle 6CA7's. One of them was showing signs of weakness. Since I had planned to have the amp serviced I wanted to try to stay with the big bottles but found I had to spend $150 or so to do that. I lucked into the RCA's and was very pleased with the amp's sound. It actually sounded better compared to the big bottles but that could simply be a function of the one deteriorating big bottle and the fact that the plate voltage was way low. The amp is running a new matched set of Electro Harmonix 6CA7 EH's now and I find little overall difference in the sound between them and the RCA's. I'm putting the amp up for sale so I decided to move the RCA's.Tim
