I was wondering if anybody uses these and how well they work. I've heard differing opinions mainly concerning the size of the band they are used with. Some people feel the are great for small combos but for larger bands they don't work as well.

Do they work well with vocals only or are better results had by miking?

Thoughts...?

I played a trio gig w/ a pair of them positioned behind the band in each corner of the stage, one was for vocals and the other everything else, this was setup by the Bose guy and nobody really knows why he did it this way, but they seem to be omni- directional and it worked fine. I miked my amp even though the Bose guy told me I did'nt need it "just plug your guitar into the tower" WTF? who on earth is training these guys in live sound? Anyway, you can hear vocals w/ no monitors , thats kinda cool, a decent powered mixer and pair of speakers does just as well save the monitor issue, the Bose is cool in that area, and I don't know how you can have the mikes in front of the mains w/o feedback but the Bose does it in spades, the only real plus I can think of. I hated having the miked guitar sound behind me, it added a weird "hi fi" element that I did not dig, this was in a restaurant setting , I would not want to use them in a louder environment, traditional bluegrass, softer trios, duos and singer- songwriter types are about as crazy as it will do IMO.

The singer/guitarist, bandleader from my old band bought a complete Bose set-up a few months ago. The band has guitar, bass, drums, keys and sax. He claims that he has gotten nothing but positive feedback from audiences and that it is very easy to hear everything clearly on stage. All I can say is that if they make his guitar playing sound good to audiences, they must be magic.
