Best fix for threads Floyd Rose

Hey guys, my 91' sunburst has some stripped thread issues.

When i got it earlier this year, it was very poorly setup, the guy claimed he didnt have the tools to do it so it was as it came to him.

When i was setting it up, i stripped one of the threads, was very easy to do, was not being over strenuous i promise! Well its since let 2 more fly whole playing, noit bending either, just playing. I had a quick look at our local bolt suppliers, they dont stock helicoils that small, i figured they would be the best bet.

If i tapped the holes to the next size, i would have to modify the saddles too. It has the 2 rows of bolt holes per saddle, so ive used the back holes on these spots and basically they are resting on the end of the slot to keep them as far forward as possible. And its kinda intonated ok actually.

Ive seen a few licenced by trems about, buyt the gold schaller thats in it is factory and i would love to keep it that way.

Any clues?

Cheers guys.

I must admit nowadays i'd just buy a new base plate as they now have hardened inserts - problem solved. Repair wise i've only ever helicoiled them.

Any clues on where to buy a base plate? WIll do that too, if they are now hardened, no brainer. Its my first floyd and i dont know a heck of a lot about them. Thanks man.

Thanks Jem, i contacted them, will see what comes of it. Knowing the way we get touched in Oz tho, im sure it will be twice the UK or US money. But will be worth it, its a great guitar. Cheers Don

I fixed my left handed Hamer Floyd with heli-coil inserts.

These are coiled steel "threads" that are used to repair stripped holes on industrial equipment. You can buy a kit with all the tools you need - bit to drill out the hole, special tap, heli-coil inserts, and installation tool. IIRC the holes are metric M3.

Doing this improves the bridge because the new steel coil threads won't strip out as easily. Replacing the bridgeplate leaves you with the same potential for the problem in the future, unless you get one of the later steel reinforced ones....
