DavidE Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 Are their bodies/necks any good? $149 for a quilt top strat body AND maple/rosewood neck..... seems like they have to be cutting corners somewhere...
TeleGibBoy Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 I gave CustomShopParts.com a try late last year. Bought a flamed veneer tele body and maple neck combo, Korea 2nd quality. Body was 1.625" thick and the veneer was thin, and the body was ash - flat sawn, as was the maple neck. Pickup spacing was to import standards, meaning only a three-barrel Tele bridge work. Couldn't use American Standard bridge - lead pick up was too far back. Neck screws were drilled at an angle, and the body had a dripped in plastic finish. Also I cut the headstock to a proper Tele shape. Okay...that was the bad news. The good news....screwed it together, wired it all up, shimmed the neck, strung her up and, damned if it didn't ring like a real guitar. . Most definitely a "player" in every sense of the word, but looks kinda cool from a distance. Yellow with a trad black tele guard, maple neck, two volumes, no tone and a 3 way switchcraft. Bottomline...it's a reasonable practice piece, not a family heirloom.... Cheers
DavidE Posted September 7, 2005 Author Posted September 7, 2005 I was offered this one for $300 with the hardshell case: Baggs piezo bridge, Fender Fat 50's pickups, generic tuners, .... local so I can try before I buy.
TeleGibBoy Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 From the pic it looks okay. The neck carve ought to be like a thin Fender C profile, with about a 12" radius. The parts alone have more value than the total guitar itself (pickups, bridge & case ought to part out to almost breakeven). YMMV.Good luck.
