  1. I know what you mean. I'm holding off on bidding until auction day. If ebay has taught me one thing, it's that if you give people time to think about it, they'll often talk themselves into spending more money. I've got my eye on a handful of oddball things. Maybe they'll fly under the radar. As for the price markup for genuine rock-star sweat... as the tear jerking commercials would say: "Less than the price of a cup of coffee." Just throwing it out there: it might be worth some communication here if any of us win. Shipping costs are a bit rougher than they used to be. It might be cost effective to just do a road trip if a few people share fuel costs!
  2. Ha... I've got one of these! https://www.julienslive.com/m/lot-details/index/catalog/312/lot/121502?url=%2Fm%2Fsearch%3Fpage%3D3%26key%3D%26cat%3D3887%26view%3Dgrid
  3. Oh yeah, Rod the Backdoor guy... He's a real giver... Really ready to give it that last inch to make a deal... Satisfaction guaranteed... Really willing to get behind his product... I'm pretty sure I could go on endlessly with these, but no one is getting bent over like the fool who gives $4500 for this guitar!
  4. I would if it was a bit closer. Seattle is close enough that I keep my eye on Craigslist, but I REALLY have to want something to make the trip.

  6. Another technique that I've heard mentioned is to use a thin coat of black paint and then to fill with contrasting grain filler. A little more pronounced...
  7. If you look on Collings' site, they mention black stain and white grain filler... I imagine it'll work well on anything with large pores... it looks different on ash, but I kinda like it better than the mahogany myself... My buddy absolutely loathes the "faded" Gibsons... I always tell him that he's being way too critical: half the prep work is done, they just need light sanding and a finish.
  8. I didn't know it was listed here... Obviously everyone else does!
  9. No affiliation. He's asking $950. https://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/msg/d/portland-hamer-25th-anniversary-artist/6907818408.html
  10. Yep... totally get it. I try not to get too heavy into redundancy land myself, but sometimes they start stacking up. I really need to part with my Greco 12 string... it just gets ignore since the Rick showed up.
  11. Absolutely... it's a funny thing, you never get your money back out of the upgrades on a guitar like that, but it's worth every penny if you're going to hang on to it for a while. If you can find someone who has done it already, it's a sweet deal. A friend bought an Echotone a while back that somehow came loaded with those stupidly expensive Tom Holmes humbuckers... he bought the guitar for about half what a set of those pickups goes for! I've always wondered about the decision to sell it without swapping those out... For anyone curious about the cork sniffery involved with the insanely priced Holmes pickups... This friend and I have very similar tastes in tone, so we did the Pepsi challenge - Echotone vs Echotone. Both have been wired with 50s style wiring, both have similar cap values (I want to say 0.015 and 0.022)... His has the Holmes pickups, mine has Seth Lovers. End result: we could hardly tell them apart! I'm sure the true believers will say our ears aren't sophisticated enough to hear the subtleties, and maybe they're right... I'll comfort myself about my crappy ears with all the cash I've saved.
  12. This is a good one, and a prime example of why I really like this particular forum. I've heard a million "guitar I never should have sold" stories and it would really be nice to see one have a happy ending!
  13. Oh... You mean "The Porcelain" reverb tank?
  14. I'm not sure about a name for it, but I think the number 1 series needs a 200+ watt all tube head - so loud you will piss yourself...
  15. FIFY I don't see what you fixed... those are synonyms!
  16. I've handled a few. I don't really like them, precisely because they feel like a Hamer - which is hardly a bad thing, it just isn't what I want from a strat. If you don't like that classic Fender feel, but you want some strat tone in your life, you might find yourself very happy with a Daytona.
  17. We had a blue 2Tek Cruise Bass in the shop where I worked for a while. It really looks sexy in blue!
  18. Right now it's about what I paid for mine... ~$400, but I didn't get a case. You could easily spend twice the money for a Fender that isn't as good.
  19. Good to know... Not my thing then. Thanks, and enjoy the new toy!
  20. Yep, wrong forum, but I'm curious... What's the fretboard radius like on those? Most of Hamer's takes on Fender stuff are flatter than I like on my Teles and Strats... Is it different than the Daytona?
  21. That and free shipping? You're the very soul of generosity, sir!
