  1. Makes sense. I thought they might refer to treble side or bass side on a headstock that has 3-3 configuration....the Chap is inline, of course. Guess there are some tuners out there with 2, 3, 4, 5, 7..... stamps. Okay then, moving on. Thanks to all for the responses.
  2. So here is a pic showing the numbers on the "against the neck" side of the tuners. As mentioned above, there are 3/3 of each. .
  3. Hello all, I removed the tuners from my 1986 Chaparral this week and noticed there is a number stamped on the part that rests against the headstock. They are Hamer branded....Three have the number "1" and three have the number "6" stamped on them. They appear to all be the same but wondering if there is some importance to the numbers on them. Anyone know the reason or meaning? Thanks, Jon C
  4. Well....That would go nicely with my Ram 1500 YELLOW Rebel. Damn....thought I was "done with Cali's", too. I was watching the Hamer history vid on Youtube and it was mentioned that Hamer had some issues with the one piece maple necks early on....twisting issue. That is why they went with the 3 piece versions...according to the vid, anyway. In any case, it is a very interesting guitar. Jeff R, I went on Facebook and there are quite a few "Kull's" listed.....not sure which one is his. Can you share a specific link so I can ask him some Q's?
  5. Well, most of them are at my house. 😝 Seriously, I think a lot of them are in a closet or a collection. People who bought them in the 80's and 90's spent a lot of money at that time to get them. The ones in the closets are owned by people who know they are great guitars, don't play them; but don't want to sell them. Maybe it would feel like giving up your dream to be a rock star? Diablo Guitars sells some off occasionally for big bucks. Otherwise it is hit and miss. The Cali Deluxe I bought recently was on Reverb; I purchased it right away.....not sure how many people even saw that one. It may be one of the best Cali's I have ever bought....and not the most expensive.
  6. Don't forget the $100 shipping. It does have the trem and truss rod covers so.....totally worth it!
  7. So, here are some pics of the new Deluxe and a family group shot. Not normally a fan of the granite or marble look, but this one is subtle enough. This will be the last Hamer I buy....unless there is a blue one, or a yellow one, or one that has the trem cover, or one that has the truss rod cover, or another Deluxe goes on sale, or one that is shiny, or dull, or perfect, or needs work.....
  8. Its the first one I have owned. I have Cali and Chap Elites, but not any Deluxes. The person I bought it from advertised it as a Cali. The push/pull for the HB is not something I will probably use. Pretty much a power metal guy. But I do like having the tone control over the front pickup. Regular Calis don't have that, of course. I really like the two boomer/dot fret marker combination. The neck is right on....shipped to me in tune and intonated perfectly. Has some checking and small dents, but the granite paint job hides all of that. I have read these have alder wood....it seems lighter than my others. The sustain is infinite....but that may be more my Mesa Boogie MK VII, I recently got. I'll get some pics up soon.
  9. Its fixed now, but it did it in any position. Exclusive to the volume pot....tone pot okay. After I put in the shielding tape it eliminated the problem. I'll get some posted asap.
  10. Okay, problem solved. After verifying that the wiring was correct via the diagram provided by Hbom (it was), I discovered that the volume pot was not grounding to the factory painted shielding in the cavity. It was connected to the tremolo ground wire, but apparently not to the jack ground in any way. It was dependent on the paint completing the connection to the jack ground. I put down some shielding tape to contact the volume, tone, and 3 way switch. All quiet and no scratching. Very happy now. Thanks for the diagram Hbom and thank you Murkat for the hint about it being a possible grounding issue. Love this site! Anybody got any winning lotto numbers? Jon
  11. I believe it is!!!!! Thank you very much. I'll verify the wiring and see if that fixes things. Again, thank you. Jon
  12. Thanks for the response....Well, it must have been made that way or has aged poorly. There are a shite load of wires on that push/pull switch. Hope someone has a schematic.
  13. Hello, I recently purchased a 1991 Cali Deluxe with EMG's and a push/pull volume to split the HB....all stock. Upon receipt, the volume pot made scratching noises and DID NOT cut the volume off when turned to minimum. I figured it was dirty and sprayed with contact cleaner. No change. I took a good look at the wiring....electronics bay, tremolo ground, input jack. All looked fine. THEN, I bought a direct replacement pot ("Bourns 25K Audio Pot w/Push-Pull Switch for EMG & Other Active Pickups") on line. It makes the same exact noise and does not completely cut the volume. A short or dirt would explain the scratchiness, but the volume issue? Linear vis Audio taper.....maybe the volume issue, but the scratchiness on two different pots? Wiring issue? The solder and wiring appeared to be stock. Has anyone ever run into this? Does anyone have a schematic for a Hamer Cali Deluxe with this set up. Love the guitar, but before I gut out the stock electronics, I'd like to see if there is a fix using the original components. Appreciate some expert recommendations or suggestions. I am not a novice with guitar electronics, but this one has me stumped. Jon C.
  14. But, but.....Blue Angels........exhaust........rocks. ;<)
  15. Hopefully it is dust, but I think its pitted. Its just a guess but I think it was used at an outdoor concert at a military base, on clear day, where the Blue Angels were performing, on a Saturday in June, the owner had special access to the runway, got to close during the low altitude fly by, got sprayed with rocks from the exhaust from Blue Angel #3, dropped his hot dog and was only able to use his body in time to shield the guitar except for the headstock. Just a guess, as I said, but what else could it be, really? (I suspect the back of his clothes he wore that day have the same pitting).
  16. Real beauty. Too pricy for me, but love it. I believe it is a 1990 if I understand my serial numbers for Hamer accurately. Not sure what would cause the spotting on the headstock and truss cover. I didn't know SD pickups on USA Calis were branded....the ones I have are unlabeled. Gorgeous. https://reverb.com/item/82216166-hamer-californian-elite-1988-1992-all-original?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=17682351984&utm_content=campaignid=17682351984_adgroupid=143800496052_productpartitionid=1946021698791=merchantid=5363633372_productid=82216166_keyword=_device=c_adposition=_matchtype=_creative=608998621633&gad_source=4&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIm-HYvcOchgMVHqpaBR2lAw9WEAQYAiABEgKEMPD_BwE
