  1. You make some good points. But, Navarro is actually pretty well spoken, and it is usually interesting to listen to what he has to say. Burke would just continue to look goofy if she changed outfits--someone needs to teach her how to dress (other than Navarro--I think they swap clothes back-and-forth). I'm hoping to go to a taping soon, it should be interesting. Tonedef
  2. An update; since it was St. Paddy's Day and all I broke out the emerald green Cruise for our gig last nite. The P/U height adjustment certainly did the trick, it sounded much more dynamic. I had to back off the amp's master V from where I usually set it, as the Cruiser was so much more lively. That's more like it... Tonedef
  3. I usually back the bridge off a smidge as well. Or sometimes I'll back the neck off a little, both settings give interesting tones. I thought I had the P/U's where I wanted them, but at your suggestions I raised them a little--sounds much better, thanks! Tonedef
  4. Very good suggestions, I will take another look at the P/U height. The acoustics in this particular bar are horrible, that may have a lot to do with it. We were on a raised wooden stage, as well. Lonote--what gauge are the flats you are using? I've been wanting to try some on this, so I think I will. Tonedef
  5. Just gigged at a small club with my USA Gotoh Cruise Bass. Gig went over really well, but I received an observation from a fellow bass player (whom I respect) that I just wasn't hitting the low tones well enough. I'm playing thru an Ampeg, so that isn't the problem (if there is one). I have never known a jazz bass to get the low P-bass tone, anyway, but I figured I'd ask the question. Some of you might have a suggestion. So, any settings tips I might try? Not on the amp, but on the bass. Should I roll off the neck more, or roll off the bridge, maybe roll off the tone some, or just not worry about it (as a jazz ain't gonna sound like a P-bass anyway)? Tonedef
  6. Nice review, dude. How about a "part 2"? Tonedef
  7. Well...Jim-B, you're back! Thought that might get your attention... OK, Deeee-Luxxxe it is . Very cool five string, for sure. Tonedef
  8. Thanks, I got so entranced in that 2Tek bridge I didn't even bother to count the strings I also am a little skeptical about the "Deluxe" thang--sounds like salesman hype... Cool bass, regardless Tonedef
  9. Wow, that is really interesting. Is that a stacked knob at the bottom? Are those EMG's active? What else is different from a standard Cruise? Tonedef
  10. J-B, are those EMG's? They did not come stock, did they? How do you like them? Tonedef
  11. Yup, Lonote, you are right, this is one fine bass. The more I play it, the more I like it. This could wind up being my fav bass, we'll see, but it is definitely going to get mucho playing time. Let me know when you find that review I'm glad I'm not the only one with a filing system so secret even I can't find it... Tonedef
  12. ...and I can see why you Hamer Nuts call this the best jazz bass Fender never made. It is as well built as anything else I own, including a Robin and a Koa neck-thru Carvin. I could not find anything to complain about, even if I wanted to be extremely critical. Well, maybe I'd like to see "CruiseBass" on the truss rod cover like on the old ones Built in '95, 8.5 lbs, balances very nicely, sounds like a jazz bass should, especially with the tone rolled off just a skinch, 4-string with a Gotoh bridge, beautiful green finish, great neck and volute, beautiful rosewood on the fretboard (instead of some of that really plain looking rosewood I've seen on so many other guitars), nice fretwork, quality hardware (some knock the tuners, but they seem fine to me and not worth complaining about. I'm not big on open-geared tuners, anyway), and a really nice scratch plate to top off the look. All-in-all, absolutely a great bass; one I doubt will be changing hands again anytime soon. Tonedef
  13. Hmmmmm...let's see... Last year Costco was selling Jay Turser stuff. This year, Gibson. I'm trying to figure out if they have improved their guitar line or not... Tonedef
