These were common on early '80s Ibanez Roadstar II basses, it appears that the ring gear has worn/'cupped' on my D tuner (2 x 2 style) to the point where it slips against the worm gear. The shaft is also broken, but it holds together fine with the ring gear set-screw. Just a good ring gear would get me by. Ring gear is 8mm wide, 5mm thick. The replacement problem is that the hole in the headstock is 17mm, which is a very odd size nowadays, so it seems. I may end up doweling the holes, I have some 11/16 dowel that is pretty much a perfect fit. Then drilling to 14mm for Gotoh 707s, which seems like a pretty good solution, and would be reversible, - not that this bass is highly collectible, but it is a bit collectible (RB924). Then I'd have new tuners instead of time-bomb tuners that might fail at any moment, - I'm not the only one who's experienced failure with one of these.
