Wayne Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Fender American Standard, Roland Synth-Ready Stratocater guitar with OHSC for sale for $850 plus shipping and insurance. The finish is in great shape. This photo was taken under a tree so any apparent markings are just the dappled sunlight coming through the leaves. As you know, Fender only offered the Roland GK2 divided hex pickup option on an American Standard guitar for a short period of time. After the initial offering, they moved production to Mexico and downgraded the quality of the guitar. This guitar features a factory installed Roland GK2 synth pickup, added to the renowned American Standard Strat. In addition to playing it like any electric guitar, you can also drive a guitar synthesizer like the Roland GR-33. I purchased this guitar in February 1997 and have taken very good care of it. This Strat features two factory single coils in the middle and bridge positions, a Seymour Duncan L'il Screamin Demon mini-humbucker in the neck (after-market upgrade; the original factory pickup is included) and of course, the Roland GK2 pickup. The guitar has a maple neck with a rosewood fretboard (rosewood is recommended for faster synth tracking), the two point vibrato bridge (currently pulled down tight), non locking tuners with two string trees, an alder body with a two-tone sunburst finish, white pickguard, an electric pickup volume control, a master tone control (note that the TBX passive tone control is not used on this guitar, unlike a typical American Standard), a synth pickup volume control, two momentary switches for changing patches on the Roland GR series synths, and a three way, mini-toggle switch to choose between electric pickups, synth pickup, or both. The height of the synth pickup is fully adjustable because of the supplied adjustment screws. This is a big help when trying to nail down proper synth tracking. Much better than the stick-on synth pickups. The guitar also has a 13-pin output jack that connects the guitar to the synth. The cable that you use (not included because it comes with the synthesizers) can carry both the electric pickup and synth pickup sounds. Of course you have the normal 1/4" output jack as well. You can use this to drive an amp separate from the synth if you like. You can also output out of the synth into an electric guitar amp for the single coil sounds, and simultaneoulsy to a PA or acoustic amp for the synth sounds. Pretty flexible. The guitar is professionaly setup and the frets have been properly polished. The guitar plays and sounds great. There is a minor blemish on the headstock with a slight indention and darkish coloring. The only other item of note is the tone control will overturn past the 10 o'clock position and cut out the sound. It needs a new tone pot for this reason only but it hasn't bothered me. I just don't overturn it past 10. The hardshell case is in fine shape. I'm selling this guitar to raise funds to purchase my dream guitar, a Hamer Artist Ultimate. I'm located in Lancaster County, PA, which is close to Philadelphia and Baltimore. I'll pay to professionaly pack the guitar. Shipping and insurance via the buyer's preferred shipping method is in addition to the purchase price. For payment, I'll accept US postal money orders or PayPal. I've done trades/purchases/sales with folks on this board with excellent results. I also have a perfect ebay record and my ID over there is tubeblaster. Drop me an email or leave a message here if you are interested. Of note, my email address has a challenge/response so you'll see a message asking you to respond so it lets your message through. Even if you don't though, I still check it via web mail so I'll still spot it. Guess that's it. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Wayne

Wayne Posted May 24, 2006 Author Posted May 24, 2006 Nice guitar... any clips of the synth in action??? Why yes, I do. Synth guitar isn't my metier but I had a phase where I was experimenting with electronics to supplement my tube amps. This clip was recorded live in one take direct to the board, simultaneously using a Line6 Pod and the Roland GR-33 synthesizer. You can hear the synth kick in at about 2:53 into the song and it interweaves in and out after that using a hammond organ patch. The only other instruments are bass and drums played by my friends Rick and Bev Bowman of The Crick Rats band. The song is: Death Don't Have No Mercy by Reverend Gary Davis and I sing it, although my voice is always circumspect. Wayne
