Guest galejt Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 1999.Taylor 414CE in mint condition.....w/case.....$1200.00?? I have one of these. This one would have a mahogany back, spruce top. Fishman under-saddle transducer. Rip that out and put in an I-Beam / Element mixer. Patch it through a Zoom A2 pedal.
kurtsstuff Posted June 11, 2006 Author Posted June 11, 2006 I think the guitar sounds fine as is but...I'm not an acoustic afficianado? I'm told these are kinda desirable in that these are "pre Dovetail" headstock joint??..I have no idea??? Oh yeah...the back and sides are from Ovankol...whatever the hell that is??
Guest galejt Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 They work really well with a processor. The I-beam is really a better transducer and the element just adds options onboard and a really nice pre-amp. I like 'em. Really.Eddited to add: more cowbell!
Taylor Player Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 You're right about the late 90's Taylors, they're pre "NT neck" which resulted in a fingerjoint on the back of the headstock that some folks don't care for.As for the wood, here's the word direct from Taylor:Ovankol:Ovangkol is an attractive hardwood indigenous to tropical West Africa. Usually, its coloration runs from yellow-brown to a mottled olive-brown to dark brown, and it features stripes that run from gray to almost black. When it has significant purple coloration, however, ovangkol's variegation and grain pattern closely resemble East Indian rosewood. It also shares some tonal characteristics with rosewood, but boasts the livelier "sparkle" found in such medium-density hardwoods as mahogany, walnut, and koa.
