Stephenson LJ15 Amp Head

Stephenson LJ-15 2-channel 30W head with power scaling. I purchased this from a fellow TGP'r a couple of months ago. It is a great amp that can double as a very low power bedroom amp or a versatile gigging amp. With the power scaling technology it can go from almost whisper quiet to the full 30W of Class A output while maintaining its true tone. Read the specs here - http://www.stephensonamps.com/lj15head.htm.

I purchased this with the intention of using it mainly as a stay at home, low power amp. It comes stock with a combination of 6V6 & EL84 power tubes. But it can run on a variety of tubes and combinations. As you can see from the website description, it is an incredibly versatile amp. And that is the main reason I'm selling it. This amp is a tweaker's dream. With the ability to run different tube combinations, control the scale, drive, fat on each channel, operate in ultra linear or pentode mode, change the output speaker impedence, vary the leveel of the effects loop, and vary and boost the preamp gain, this amp is just too much for me. I am not a tweaker and much prefer a more plug in and play combo type of amp.

A footswitch is included which allows you to switch between channels, provide a preamp gain boost, or engage the effects loop.

The amp is in near-mint condition. Mark Stepehnson is no longer producing the LJ15 head, although from his website it looks like you could order one custom with a 2 year lead time.

Amp is SOLD!

Just spent an hour researching this amp. I'm familiar with Kevin O'Conner's work (have all but his latest book, read them cover to cover). What does this puppy sound like?

Jim,

Sorry I didn't see your posting until today. I've been careful not to come to the HFC unless it's on my Mac, which seems to block any virus attempts.

Anyway, it's an interesting amp because of the dissimilar power tubes (EL84 & 6V6). However, you can pull either pair for a more traditional EL84 or 6V6 tone, or use different tubes. The power scaling allows you to drive the power tubes, but vary the power so you can get the amps true tone at anywhere from whisper quiet (really) to the ful 30W. I didn't spend a whole lot of time experimenting, and never tried different tubes. I just hate noodling with amps (I know there are a lot of people who love it, just not me). So no telling why I bought this in the first place. I would liken this amp to a surgical blade. If you are so inclined, and willing to experiment, you can probably get almost any tone you want out of it.

If you are interested, I can certainly let you know if the current deal fall through.
