Steve- As far as I know, it is partially hollow with some type of block in the center. The construction is very similar to an ES-335. It sounds nice unplugged, but not as loud as my spruce topped fat-body jazz archtops. This one is meant to be played plugged in and louder. It does not feed back like my other archtops but it retains a nice semi-acoustic tone. I can go from Jazz to Rock tones with it very effectively.
