AdmiralB Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 Looking for a pair - one RW/RP preferred but not mandatory - of Duncan SSL-2 Vintage Flats. Have a pair of APS-1s to trade, or would buy outright.
ZR Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 On the old board I had a question about APS-1's vs SSL-1;s; how to tell the difference bewteen the two when they both had the same sticker (they are very similar mainly just different magnets, AL2 and AL 5, respectively). Well, I got a reply from Duncan and they said that they may both have the same little white sticker on the bottom BUT the APS's also have some stamped-in letters on the bottom of the bobbin which the SSL-s don't - that's the big giveaway. So, I did have APS-1's on my Daytona afterall and SSL-1's on my Chap Custom. All is right with the world! Carry on.Admiral, do you really notice much of a difference between the staggered and flat?
AdmiralB Posted March 4, 2005 Author Posted March 4, 2005 Well, no, other than the balance is a bit better. I need them for my Centaura - I have a Duncan Broadcaster pickup mounted in a humbucker cover in the bridge - it doesn't have holes, so it looks like a Gibson Iommi or whatever.Anyway, the bridge sits really low on this guitar and I can't get the neck and middle pickups low enough to get them to balance with the bridge - they're louder, and the reason is because most of the magnets stick up so far. A flat pole pickup would sit lower, overall.
