JohnnyThunders Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 MojoTone Tone Machine Germino built Mojotone Tone Machine amp. 2x10 combo with reverb. PTP wired & built like a tank! top quality boutique amp at a super low price! only about 25 of these amps were built by Greg Germino. They made about half of them in the 1x12 configuration & the other half was 2x10 like this one. 2 channels, the first is voiced like a Super Reverb & the second is voiced like an Orange/Matamp! 50 watts through 2xEL34s & tube rectified!
Condition is good but some of the tolex is lifting at the corners.
It comes with the schematics & manual. This amp has never been gigged & has been well cared for! these amps listed for about $2000 from Mojotone a couple of years ago. There is an effects loop and it is accessible on the front panel which is a joy to use. That choice in positioning proved to be very user friendly. The 2nd photo shows the ext speaker out. There is a jack for a footswitch visible on the photograph however I do not have the foot switch. The foot switches for turning the reverb on and off. The foot switch is available from Mojo Musical supply and is a simple on-off switch wired to an RCA plug with a shielded wire. I've also been asked to give the detail about the amplifier. What I intend to do is to paraphrase from the owner's manual that comes with the amplifier. There is a 'Really Loud' channel that is meant to be in the British style EQ. The volume will radically affect your sound and will quickly send the signal into distortion. Increase the volume control passed the mid position will increase distortion content more than increases volume. This is meant to be the Plexi channel. The other channel is called the 'Loud' channel and it has been suggested by some that the EQ is similar to an AC30. The tone machine has two inputs per channel. Iput one on each channel is the most sensitive input. Effects pedals or guitars with hot pickups will more easily overdrive this input. Those wanting a cleaner sound may prefer 2nd input which will provide slightly less headroom and clipping. Input 2 can also be used as an output and in this way you can bridge the two channels and infinitely combine the percentages of each. There is a bright switch available only on the loud channel. In the up position it bypasses high frequency across the volume control. This is most noticeable when will and the volume control is at a lower setting and is intended to combat loss of high frequency at the settings. The manual states that the bright switch can also be wired for special modifications but it does not specify what type of modifications they are referring to. The tone controls are interactive with one another. There is settings of the mid control have an effect on the treble and bass controls as well. The tone machines reverb sound is accomplished through a classic all tubes signal path with an Accutronics reverb tank. According to the manual it is notable that the resistance usually used to accomplish parallel signal path of the reverb circuit is placed here with the tube buffer stage, resulting in a more open sound with less loss of highs the elimination of one coupling capacitor. Reverb is only available on the loud channel. A simple modification will make it available on the really loud channel as well. In regards to the pre-amp out from the effects loop; this send jack is to the buffer stage after the reverb has been mixed in with a straight signal. The use of the buffer stage here means that the signal is able to drive long cable runs or feed multiple effects. The power amp in jack by itself disables the internal preamp. Use this jack as a return if you're running a loop from the preamp out through some devices and backgammon, or as an input for running an external preamp into the power section of the tone machine. A simple modification can enable you to use the internal preamp and an external as well. Always be sure one and only one speaker jack is wired to an appropriate speaker cabinet before applying power to the tone machine. The three outputs from left to right are four, eight, and 16 ohms. An exact match in impedance is recommended. The 2x10 model uses to Mojo tone BB10G speakers which have a 97 DB efficiency and can take 70 continuous watts / 140 Pequots per speaker. I believe that the amplifier has all of its original tubes and this includes 5 12AX7 JJ tubes, 2 JJ EL34's, and one Chinese 5AR4. There are four potential setups; set up number 1 is to have your guitar plugged into the first channel or the Loud channel as a rhythm guitar. Set up number 2 is to plug straight into the second channel or Really Loud channel for lead guitar. Set up number 3 is to run a patch cord between Loud channel input number 2 and input one of the second channel. The tone controls can be used to emphasize the difference frequencies for each channel. Second channel is capable of incredible amounts of bass response while the first channel has fuller mids. The last set up is to use an AB box to switch channels. Within the manual internal and external modifications that can be performed are described. I will not go into detail about them but there are ways to turn the tone machine into a 'reverb machine' as well as a way to turn the first channel or 'Loud' channel into a foot switchable gain boost/overdrive channel..... of course the Manual will be included with the amplifier. $699 + shipping and paypal. CONUS and Canada only. Matamp Ok this Matamp Little Rock that was recently discontinued, see Minimat II as it almost the same. This is my bedroom amp and quite frankly my wife would rather I do other things in the bedroom than play my amp! So off it goes. This amp is small, light and 4 watts with a single 6V6 and 2 12ax7 ore-amp tubes. Has master, drive, volume and 6 positions of various levels of clean and distortion. Mostly distortion or hairy cleans. You can dime this thing and it is not too loud and the tubes really crank. Has DI out great for recording. Goes really well with the Swanson cab below. Is PTP wired and built like a tank. Has ding in back panel from shipping from England but no internal damage. It was checked out by my amp tech who wired it for US voltage. Probably none in the US Price is $650 Shipped and Paypal.
