foodermon Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 Hey all, Are any of you occasionally travelling by air with an oversized guitar/case (e.g. Standard, Bass)? I'm hoping to fly my standard eventually, but would like some recommendations and experiences with this before doing anything stoopid. Has anyone found a way to carry a standard or other oversized guitar on board?? Does ticketing first class, type of aircraft, or airline make a diff in options to carry it on? Or is the assumption that it will need to be protectively cased and thrown in with the checked in luggage?? Thanks for your thoughts!
tobereeno Posted June 22, 2005 Posted June 22, 2005 I flew with a doubleneck in a hardshell case; it made it ok, the thing was so big that it was classified as "oversize" and didn't go through the regular luggage conveyor thingie. You could always gate check it, but what I do when I travel with my doubleneck is carry it in a gig bag and throw it into the overhead bin. I do some vigorous Bin Defense while the plane is loading to keep people from throwing suitcases on top of it, then settle in for the flight.
