McInturff comparisons

I used to own a Polaris Pro. That particular model is no longer made. It is basically Terry's standard shape with a flat maple top. He also made a Polaris without the maple top. Mine was/is a great guitar but it just wasn't my ultimate guitar. The Zodiac humbuckers were really nice. The quality of workmanship was top notch. A very versatile guitar that was comfortable to play.

The things I didn't like about it were more personal than anything else. The pickups were sweet (great split sounds too) but I prefer a little more drive from my bridge bucker (just my preference). The neck carve was nice but just a little fuller than I like. The main thing was that it was an unbound neck and the side markers didn't show up very well in darkened environments.

I'd say Terry's nitro finishes are a selling point, really thin and he uses a really good formulation from a really good company. Most of the stuff from Gibson not so much. I stripped 2 different fairly recent Gibby's last year and they were way thicker than some of the polyester and urethane finishes out there. BTW they were standard production line models, not historic or custom shop ones.

Yes, it does seem that new Mc models as well have a Nitro finish according to his site. I was running through the Hamer factory tour photos and it looks like Hamer does an awesome job with their finish work and uses an acetate based lacquer. How does this compare to the others? From what they say, must be good stuff.
