kanegon Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 I hate the Duncan P90s in my 93 Special, they are definitely muddy. They sound nothing like the dogear on my 68 SG Jr., that's for sure. The Lollars seem popular, and I hear that new Gibsons come fairly close to the old sound - I like them bright and jagged! I want the tone clear out of Duncan territory.Any one have an extra set? THX!

kanegon Posted October 21, 2009 Author Posted October 21, 2009 I have a set of Gibson historic P90's to throw out there as well....good choices.Don't know what the historic P90s are, but I figure it's a vintage wind of some sort. How do they sound compared to the SDs or regular P90s? My issue with the SDs are they are mid-boomy and rather indistinct character-wise. My vintage dogear is thin sounding with a pronounced high end, but it's got GREAT character. It just revs - cranked through a 3x10 Bruno. Seriously, it's like stepping on the accelerator. Maybe not a V8 or a V-twin, but more like a V12 or something. I don't care if it's a Briggs and Stratton. For me, it's the character/shape of that sawtooth that seems to do it.
murkat Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Historic P90's are built almost like back in the 50's. Vintage wind, tone, bark, etc...way better than what the USA plant uses and or sells on the side in there accessory line.

But its my understanding that the Historic Les Paul's just use the stock Gibson P-90, not a special wind of any sort.
