bigjel Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 I've recently bought an E-MU 0404 sound card for my PC for use in my home studio but am having problems installing the damn thing! The instructions said to insert the card in to an expansion slot, start the computer which would recognise that new hardware was present and then to install the supplied drivers.Upon starting the PC, it recognised on the first occasion that there was a new game controller device present but the drivers would not install. Having since taken it out and put it back in on more than one occasion, it isn't recognising it at all, either on start up or within the sound settings on control centre. The card is currently left in the PC as it seemed as good a place as anywhere to keep it.The sound card currently in the PC is part of the motherboard. I have tried disabling it but still no luck with the new one. The main reason for getting the new one was the old one created an audible, annoying "click" at the end of a recorded part or if a part was cut and pasted. If anyone has any ideas or can point me in the right direction, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks guysAndy
Guest galejt Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 Some questions first:What operating system are you running? What kind of motherboard do you have?On board sound cards are sometimes disabled by jumpers on the board. Other times its a soft switch (Abit boards good!)Assuming you have Windoze, look in the system settings (in different places depending on the edition of the P-OS you are running). Delete the entry for the sound card and it will ask for it again on boot up.Are you sure you have rights to install software? The newer version of the P-OS differentiate between casual user and POWER MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE users. Also software installed sometimes needs to be told it can be used by all users or only specific users.I deal with Windoze by knowing that there is a special place in Hell for Sr. Gates. Prefereably in the room knee deep in manure where they get one hour a day not standing on their heads.

Lockbody Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 The sound card currently in the PC is part of the motherboard. I have tried disabling it but still no luck with the new one. It's possible that you may need to disable it in the MB's BIOS.
