Jeroen Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 Hey y'all,What are the main differences in sound/playing between 010 strings and 012 strings, sound wise etc.??On Hamers I use 010 (last 4 years, was using 009) for their sound and playability. On acoustics I use also 010, but that is only to make them play faster. My Ovation came with 012......and I don't have them.....bulks of 010 hehehe. I can try 010's of course but would like to know what other people have to say about it.Thanks,Jeroen
DavidE Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 I can't imagine using anything smaller than 12's on an acoustic without weakening the tone.If you want to play electric lead lines on an "acoustic," get something like a duotone or Parker where you're really not interested in the true acoustic tone, but the piezo and preamp tone.
hardheartedbill Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 I like at least 12's on my Ovation, I usually use the D'Addario Bluegrass guage which is the med set w/ the light set plain strings
Jeroen Posted August 20, 2005 Author Posted August 20, 2005 I have D'Addario EJ15 on my Guild and Ibanez Acoustics, but am reconsidering EJ 26 (011) for the Guild. The 010 on it right bend pretty easy, which I can use for some leads. I need some lighter strings on my Ovation at least the B and E.Bill, how are the BlueGrass sounding, don't know if you can compare them with the EJ15??Jeroen
hardheartedbill Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 the bluegrass sound great, the bigger the string the better on acoustics IMO
tgoss Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 10's will sound like poopy on an acoustic. There are some 11 sets out there if you don't want to go too heavy.
Jeroen Posted August 22, 2005 Author Posted August 22, 2005 I am going to order D'Addarion EJ26 for both guitars!!btw here a preview of my Guild with EJ15 (010). Recording isn't the final mix, came straight from the 2 inch tapeJeroenhttp://www.maneattractionmusic.com/sounds/onesolo.mp3
