Zu Cable, a ten-year-old internet-based audio company (they also make near world-class speakers), is restructuring their cable line and closing out their remaining cable stock at about 70% off their very competitive list prices. Go here to see what's available.
At the beginning of the summer I took a little leap of faith and re-cabled my vinyl record-based stereo system with Zu's second-from-the-top interconnect, speaker cables, and power cable (for the integrated amp). The results were astounding. The extra bandwidth and noise-rejecting properties of these cables do a better job of passing along the original signal without damage to the dynamics, clarity or timing. I liked 'em so much I went back for a second power cable and an iPod cable. The iPod cable redefined what I thought could come out of an iPod. When I fired it up my wife immediately said, "It sounds like an LP." And that's basically right in the sense that playback was smoother and warmer with more detail in the forming and fading of notes, and much less "clang" and harshness that often comes with Red Book digital.
The iPod cable is called the Pivot Mini-to-RCA, and was originally priced at $189. They have their last few at $39 and $49, and no component near that price will make your iPod sound better through your stereo than this little piece of cable. The build quality is extremely high as well.
This is about as risk-free a purchase as you can make. Their cables take awhile to burn in to reach maximum performance, so they sell everything with a generous 60-day evaluation/return period. They send most cables via priority mail, so shipping is cheap and fast.
If you have need for any other cable types, you won't find as good a cable even on the used market as what Zu if offering at these prices with full factory warranty. The Birth power cable is really good as are the OxyFuel interconnects, both of which cost little more than entry-level Monsters while performing like $200-300 items.
