humfree Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 I have to reinstall a vintage style Wilkinson - I'd like it to float..Should I screw it down tight and allow the spring tension to pull it down, or leave it snug with some wiggle room? Thanks
Ting Ho Dung Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Are you talking about the 6 screw type? The way it's supposed to be done if I understand correctly is to string it up, set the springs in the back of the guitar for the floating height you prefer and then tighten each screw till the plate just moves a bit. Then back off the screw till it is back at its resting position. Repeat on all 6 screws. If you look closely at the front of the plate you will see it is angled. Tightening the screws will cause it to move on that pivot point. Backing the screw out just a bit will return it to the floating position. Make sense? Search it on utube.
