crabby Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 If have one OR you've had one, PLEASE tell me about it,,,,,, all about it. Here's a picture of a C-55
Scooter Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 I used to have a Brian Moore singlcut (DC1 iirc). It had a nice, fat neck and BEAUTIFUL craftsmanship. It was comfy and well designed. Truly a great instrument. I wish I still had it.
primaltone Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 I have a C-55P. I LOVE the neck on this guitar. I have small hands, and it just seems to 'fit'. It's comfortable, and I like the 'satin' finished neck. The body is also sweet, as it's nicely contoured and very well balanced. It's also pretty light. As far as the sound goes, I change my mind every time I play it. I really like the heavy, compressed tone of the J.B. in the bridge, but I just can't get used do the Alnico II in the neck. It doesn't have the humbucker sound I'm accustomed to - it's kinda thin and twangy. I've thought about replacing it with a '59, but I haven't yet. Overall, the guitar has a nice sound, but it doesn't have the 'nads' that a Hamer Standars or a Les Paul has. I don't really use the Piezo much, but it does have a unique acoustic-y sound.I bought the guitar used, and it 'was' used. I can't really bend the high E string past the 14th fret, or else it dies. I'm not sure if it needs a fret job or just an adjustment. It's a well built, great playing guitar. Just wish I loved the sound more.
crabby Posted February 14, 2006 Author Posted February 14, 2006 primaltone, i wish I could have gotten a C-55 P but this regular o' C-55 will have to do.................... anyone else have anything to add? Come on guys,,, tell me more about these guitars.
data187 Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 i played a couple at guitar center and really like them alot.i've been trying to get one on ebay ever since.(i got outbid on that green one)i think the neck is medium in thickness, but wide...kind of in between a prs wide thin and wide fat.the guitar itself is very comfortable to play since the back is contoured.the pickups sound good, but i agree that it's not as thick sounding as let say a les paul.it has it's own sound, and playing it thru a rivera, it sounded very good. the tone was very balanced and notes were articulate.i think these are excellent guitars for under $1000.
Scooter Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 i think these are excellent guitars for under $1000. You can get a USA Brian Moore for under $1000? Where?
crabby Posted February 14, 2006 Author Posted February 14, 2006 Scooter, I think data187 was talking in the used market,, that green one went for $705 plus shipping which was high,,,, I think $49 but still seems pretty darn good IF it's in great shape. data187, I would expect that it wouldn't sound as "Thick" as a LP because the body shouldn't weigh anywhere near as much as a LP,,,,,,,,,, I would think a Brian Moore C-55 should sound very "similar" to a Fender "Big Apple" strat, both have lighter weigh bodies BUT have two humbuckers like a Les Paul, I may be wrong BUT we'll see. By the way, I didn't have any idea that I was bidding against a "HFCer" or I'd never bid,,,,,,,,,, sorry. Will ya' forgive me?

data187 Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 I would expect that it wouldn't sound as "Thick" as a LP because the body shouldn't weigh anywhere near as much as a LP,,,,,,,,,, I would think a Brian Moore C-55 should sound very "similar" to a Fender "Big Apple" strat, both have lighter weigh bodies BUT have two humbuckers like a Les Paul to me, the c55 sounds and plays better than a big apple strat. the c55 is so resonant and lively that the harmonics jumps right out. i think the c55 is right in between a strat and a les paul. a good fit if you have both in your stable. By the way, I didn't have any idea that I was bidding against a "HFCer" or I'd never bid,,,,,,,,,, sorry. Will ya' forgive me? don't sweat it, open market, open bidding...congrats on your purchase.
crabby Posted February 14, 2006 Author Posted February 14, 2006 I'm very lucky,,,, I have Fender American Deluxe Fat Strat AND a Hamer Studio Custom I also have Hamer Mirage II that I traded another strat for a few weeks back and to me the Mirage II sounds between the Strat and a Les Paul, with it's Fender scale and lighter weight (than a LP) but still with humbuckers and all,,,,,,,,, and it's a set neck ,,,,,,,,,,, I'm looking forward to trying out the C-55 , that's for sure!
