Wiring My Monaco Elite

Question

I have a Monaco Elite that I have changed pick ups in many times and also rewired many guitars.  A couple of years ago, the pick ups started shorting in and out.  I checked all wiring, soldering and replaced typical culprits such as the jack (thought that was it as when I moved it it cut in and out) and the switch but nothing has worked.  I'm convinced now that it is some type of grounding or shielding issue.

Do Monaco Elites have some weird grounding or very heavy shielding that maybe I have a wire touching?  I know the cavity is pretty small, and I've made sure that the wires aren't touching the side.   Also, I recently found an old schematic for a Monaco and it says "use shrink tubing on the L-Toggle connections to avoid contacting the ground point".  I'm not sure if I did this when I put in the new switch.  Maybe that is the issue?  Any help would be appreciated, and I am attaching the schematic I found.

Thanks,

Jeff

This is excellent advice.  I just had a similar problem with a guitar that thad the shallow L-Toggle switch.  It would crackle, pop and intermittently cut out when I touched the pickup selector switch, especially in the middle position.  I rewired the switch, being careful to eliminate any stray strands of wire and isolating every connection with shrink tubing.  The first attempt was a big improvement, but I still had some noise in the middle position.  I went back in and found a single strand of braided ground wire that was loose.  I clipped it and solved the problem completely.
