That was awesome.  What's Roy playing there? ES350? Byrdland?

Byrdland.  Lots of similarities with the L5 but the wire tailpiece and 22 frets with markers at the 15/17/19 positions are Byrdland where the L5 had a more robust tailpiece, no marker at the 19th position and had only 20 frets.

The ES350T was short scale like the Byrdland but didn't have the flower pot headstock inlay and had the very cool split inlays on the fretboard (but again, the 19th was left bare).

  2. Thanks for posting this!

I remember seeing that as a kid when it first aired and have looked around for it on the web from time to time.  I finally saw it a couple years back but it's always great to see.  I knew Roy Clark from Hee-Haw but this was my introduction to Gatemouth.

  3. Another thanks to the OP for posting this.  I watched it this morning and found it interesting.

I first heard of Bonamassa when I saw him live as the opener for (I think) Buddy Guy back around 2001.  He was an early 20s, pre-suit wearing Joe and I was blown away by his performance.  Loads of contagious energy that spread to every corner of the room...he just had the whole place in his hand.  He only had the one album out at the time and I grabbed a copy at the merch table on our way out the door.  I've listened to it maybe a half dozen times in total.

I've never seen him live again but have heard more recordings, none of which leave me wanting more.

I find him to be an incredibly interesting guy.  I enjoyed the documentary, I enjoyed his interview with Beato, I enjoy just hearing him talk about music and gear.  I'm amazed by by his noodling.  He's essentially the person my teenage self wanted to be....he owns ALL the toys and is just living life doing the things he enjoys doing.

Maybe he's just one of those guys that is best appreciated live?  He's a phenomenal player, but for me his recordings lack "it", and my opinion clearly matters as evidenced by his being the most successful blues recording artist ever.  🤷‍♂️

  4. I recently sold a guitar on Reverb and used their shipping/insurance.  Somehow, two of the knobs were broken in shipping.  The buyer was initially "no big deal" and we agreed on a partial refund to cover the cost of replacements.  For whatever reason, he couldn't find any that fit (it was a recent Gibson guitar).  Two weeks later he says he'd found a different guitar he wanted to buy so he wanted to return for refund, aka buyers remorse.  I contacted Reverb to ask what my obligation was and they assured me I had none as the partial refund was sufficient.

Fast forward a few days and the buyer filed a claim with Reverb and soon after I get an email from Reverb saying the guitar was coming back to me and I'd have 24 hours upon receipt to issue a full refund.

I replied with details of my conversations with the buyer as well as the transcript where a Reverb rep told me I had no further obligation.  The next day I was told Reverb was taking the guitar and covering the refund, so buyer was out nothing and they stood by what they'd told me about having no further obligation even though it turned out to be inaccurate.

From my perspective it was outside both the Reverb and my own return policies and he'd made several comments that implied it was less about the knobs and more about finding a similar guitar for less money after he'd already pulled the trigger on mine.

I feel they ultimately did the right thing for me and they certainly went further than I was interested in to protect the buyer.

Have you ever heard anyone inquire as to the year build of their Squire Strat?

I totally get and agree with your point but there are many examples that make it better than this one.  Some eras of Squires have a steadfast cult following where the serial number and date and location of manufacture make all the difference between a guitar being worth as little as $400 or as much as $450!

Lets face it ALL shipping sucks these days, if it's not the cost it is the carelessness of the service or both........................my daughter just bought a 4K+ computer and it arrived with the monitor completely shattered. Glass everywhere when she opened it......................thanks UPS. Now she gets to wait another 5-6 business days for a replacement. UPS isn't the one covering the cost or bearing the responsibility for the damaged unit Best Buy is. Hopefully this new one will make it here in one piece.

Makes sense UPS would have no liability here.  Best Buy likely operates with their own insurance policies in place that cover shipped items so they wouldn't have purchased any additional through UPS.  I worked as a mail carrier for USPS for nearly a year because I'd always wondered how the sausage was made.  In nearly every case of something being damaged it was due to poor packing.  I did see some gross examples of how things are handled, but proper packing goes a LONG way to defeat the majority of it.  Did Best Buy open and inspect the monitor prior to shipping?  If not there's really no way of knowing the monitor was intact when UPS picked it up.
