  1. Yes, 3 at once. Even 4 if I include Rocktron Nitro. First the OD produces tone clarity, then the Tube Works gives it a nice overdrivven tube sound, then the actual distortion. I know it sounds sick, but is there anyone out there but me who thinks its normal?
  2. A blues guitarist died and found himself in front of St. Peter at the Pearly Gates. St. Peter was trying to concentrate and was a little flustered by the slide guitar music behind him. The guitarist asks, "Do I hear Duane Allman? Is that really Duane, can I meet him?" St. Peter ignored his comments and kept working. Stunned by the performance, the guitarist beckoned St. Peter's attention and said, "This may be my only chance while I am here at the entrance to meet Duane Allman. Is that Duane? St. Peter ruefully rolled his eyes and said, "No that is not Duane. It is God. He just thinks he's Duane!" I think I told it right...
  3. I am not sure I understand my problem either, but the wife says I have one...hehe My question is, is my set up extreme by normal standards? If it's not considered extreme, then what options are there to eliminate hiss, if any? I am sure almost everyone has their own overdriven sound, what are they?
  4. I did that a while back and I will try it again now, thanks... but it won't give me true stereo. I had another little Crate practice amp which served that function, but I think I killed it... problem is is that its transistors and not tubes
  5. I love the Allmans. Live at Fillmore was rated #2 influential album by Rolling Stone. They even did concerts which helped a Presidential candidate get elected. Top blues band, ever. I don't think anyone could expect more from a band of that calibur. During the 70's all the girlies were taking their tops of to Freebird, and not Whipping Post, though. With the loss of their original lead guitarist and bass player, I think it left a void in talent and creativity in the long run. Enlighten Rouges is a very underrated album. It ended up on the discount rack at super market chains during the 80's.
  6. that's pretty funny....although gargabe usually goes out first thing in the morning. I have a Crate Taxi amp which has a pretty good punch which I alternate between the big amp, or I play it combination.
  7. I like my overdriven sound. I implement a Boss ME 50 multi effects (22 distortion/overdrive variations) and before that I have a DigiTech Bad Monkey and/or Blues Screamer. Finally I run it through a Tube Works Real Tube (12au7). This is the sound that I found I need. I also have a SD-1, DS-1 and Grunge pedals, but I don't have them on my board. Of course, I also run it through a Rockman rack Noise Reduction, and a noise suppressor on the ME 50. I have a 120 W Peavey Deuce Tube Amp and I am unable to turn it up. So I really don't know if I am trying to do too much with the distortion. I live in a small townhouse in Nashville. My wife doesn't appreciate my playing and I have a 2 1/2 year old toddler who stomps on my volume pedal(s) everytime I pick up and play, even at low volume. Other guitarists are able to get more with less. I get a lot of unwanted frequeny noises running all the overdrives/distortion. My question is is that a common problem which is part of the set up, or can it somehow be eliminated? I was told by a sales rep that as long as I don't stop playing, the static noises won't be an issue. But it is there and it occasionally warrents my attention. Also, is it too much? Is there anyone out there playing with a simlar set-up and/or more? Is this set up normal, or really extreme?
  8. I've never seen anyone bash Donnie Van Zant. Kinda gives a new perspective. Maybe Kid Rock can sing for them. I don't know if Metallica would be purley American because Lars is from Sweeden and he tapped into their psyche to produe his version of metal. and he probably drives a Volvo. Steely Dan's last live album is earth shattering. I don't know if too many people off the street could tell you the name of their line up, or the fact that the guitarist is from Passaic, NJ. Their lyrics are rather obscure, though. Brian Johnson (AC/DC) said that what they aim to do is write music about fk'ing. Plain and simple. I guess that would be the litmus test.
  9. Skynyrd had a hit single a few years back, "Red, White and Blue." After '77 was the Rossington Collins band which there was a great great album. Allen Collins had MS and died from complications during the 80's. But he also turned out to be a loser, I think killing his girlfriend in a car while drunk and/or on heroin. For some reason they won't let Artimus Pyle back into the band. Donnie Van Zandt is leading vocals. They seem like a novelty act now, but their performance in thier live DVD is worth the $. It is a before and after series.
  10. Technically Eddie was born in the Netherlands... he'll never make a US President, neither will Arnold. I plead ignorance on the Signature comment....I don't even own a Gibson. I just thought I read it somewhere. Rolling Stone mag rated Are You Experienced #1 most influential album (minus the Brits), and Allman Bros. Fillmore #2. I would venture that the South has risen above in the arcane of rock(blues) music.
  11. KISS may very well claim the title. But is anyone able to listen to their music without taking Valium? Even Ozzy had to admit what they did professionally was amazing.
  12. I believe that the Eagles do have a position in the top three. But they broke up for about 2 decades and were pretty bitter about it and it seems there were a lot of egotistical madness. Aerosmith did the same thing. Skynyrd as a whole never broke up, until, of course, literally. They have made a sincere attempt at regrouping, Gary had quadruple bipass. I might see them at McCoy in Aug., but that is because I am on mission and I won't have anything better to do. FYI. I read that Gary Rossington is the only artist to have a signature LP named after him by both Gibson and Ephiphone, and there is also the Epiphone Skynryd guitar.
  13. I know this is really juvenile.... I am a Skynyrd fan. My wife is an Aerosmith fan. Like, who cares? Anyway, I try to think of other bands which originated in the US who have become more successful, and I really can't. I understand that success is a loose term. Boston had a good run, but only one good album. You could argue Guns-n-Roses, but they are a train-wreck and I don't know if they are still together. Bon Jovi...I don't think so. Springsteen? Doubt it. I am from NJ, by the way. It seems that most of the great bands came from across the lake...or down under. Brad Whitford plays the new Korina flying V, by the way.
