  1. I also got "The Text" last week, the same time @BubbaVO got his. But I wanted to wait until it was in transit to say anything. Now it is in FedEx's hands with an estimated delivery date of Friday.
  2. In may daily perusal of auction in Japan, I ran across this Hamer Steve Stevens. It's not really my thing and I'm not familiar enough with the model to know whether the finish is original, unique or otherwise desirable. It's an auction, so no telling what the ending price will be. But the USD/JPY exchange rate is still pretty favorable so it may end up being a decent deal for anyone looking for something like this. FWIW, I have lent a helping hand to a few members here in getting guitars from Japan to the US and am happy to assist anyone who might want to make a run at this one. Just shoo me a PM. https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/j1094417615
  3. I've been in Valery's queue for a little over 2 years. Earlier this year, my number came up and I started detailing the guitar I wanted him to build for me. I wanted something a little different than a typical '59 type build, but still with traditional aspects. It's loosely based on a late 70's Super Custom with 7 ply binding on the top, 5 ply binding on the back and headstock, flame maple neck w/ ebony board and split block inlays, Mahogany body with a flame maple cap, but no flame veneer on the back. We went back and forth on a few other features and finish. He somehow took my ramblings and ended up making the guitar I had in my head. I was expecting a 6-8 week travel time as that's what Valery said it was taking for his shipments to get to the US. So imagine my complete surprise when it showed up on my doorstep in 11 days. Talk about a great way to start off a week! It's stunning in every way. Obviously it looks fantastic, I don't think Valery could have helped me pick out a more perfect top for my taste. Nice non-uniform flame with a lot of crossing grain and mineral streaks to add character. Of course the neck is no slouch in the looker department. Valery told me that the logo he used for the headstock was on older version that he only used once about 10 years ago. He resurrected it for this guitar and I'm glad he did, I love the detail. Apparently it was quite the process to get it cut and set. But while I love a good looking guitar, it's how it plays and sounds that's the real test. And I'm happy to report that it hits that mark as well. The neck is just a hair bigger than his typical '59 shape and size (at my request) and hits the mark perfectly. I have no problem playing smaller necks (as long as they are not shredder thin), but prefer them a bit larger. This one starts at 0.92" at the 1st fret to 1.02" at the 12th. Plays like a dream with nice, low action once I go it set up to my liking. I had a previous set of Vaschenko pickups that I wasn't thrilled with. They were microphonic at higher gains and I shared that with Valery. He wax potted these and I really like the tone I'm getting. It sounds to me as if they are wired to be out of phase in the middle position. I'm not sure if this is by design or a happy mistake, but I really like the quacky tone I get there. This is my 5th Vaschenko (but first I've had him build for me). I still own 3 with no plans to part with any of them, especially this one. He is a true artist and craftsman. I'm no photographer, but here are a couple of shots in the sun. I will say the sun brings out the red, it doesn't appear that red indoors.
  4. That Edwards is a TON of guitar at that price. I've had a lot of Edwards models come through my hands and they have all been very good. Anyone looking for a 335 would be hard pressed to find a better one at double the price.
  5. A set of Gravelin Charlottes took my recently acquired Hamer Special FM LE from good to great, both in looks and tone.
  6. I've always liked the shape and look of a JM, but never really bonded with one. However, a few months ago I stumbled across a FGN Neo Classic JM with P90s and standard switching/controls. As a bonus, the neck is a little chunkier than most Fender JMs I've played. I've enjoyed this one more than I expected.
  7. I bought this from one of Hillarius's listings last year. It is a fantastic guitar, but I have many and a different strat type that I prefer. I thought I'd list it here first for exactly the amount I have in it, $1,240. At this price, I'd prefer a fee-less payment like PP F&F or Venmo. Gold finish, flamed maple neck with rosewood fretboard, 6105 frets that show no wear and Rio Grande pickups. It's in very good shape and has a neck that feels just a little bigger than the typical Fender. There is a small bit of lacquer checking on the back of the headstock and neck (see pics) Weighs 8 pounds exactly. Neck measurements are: Width - 1.71" at the nut, 2.10" at the 12th fret Depth - 0.86" at the 1st fret, 0.95" at the 12th fret Includes a well padded Ibanez gig bag.
  8. I'll give you the P&L Statement!
  9. Speaking of more pickups, check out this mid-70s Greco that popped up for sale recently in Japan. Truly one of a kind oddball.
  10. Now THAT'S how you sell a guitar, one pic and a one word description. I do remember the double neck from years back, I think it was listed on CL for ever. It's hard to take anyone asking 5 figures seriously they don't know the difference between a Moderne and Futura. Or how to spell.
  11. Yeah I saw that. The beefy neck is what draws me to this model. I have no idea what a fair price would be now. But if anyone is willing, I'm open to have that discussion. I think most members who have dealt with me in the past have found me fair and pretty easy to work with. It wouldn't be the first time I've paid quite a bit more to reacquire something I stupidly sold in the past.
  12. I know, long shot. Anyone here holding? I had one in the past and stupidly let it go. Missing it lately. I have cool trade bait and/or cash.
