  1. Well they're doing something I've never heard of before. A song called Breaking My Own Heart from a band called Haste The Day. Pulled it off Limewire and it's the exact kind of music I hate. It's supposed to be pretty well known by the school kids though, so what the hell do I know?!?! After hearing it I tried talking them into Twisted Transistor by Korn. Less "death growling" for vocals. We'll see. Man, at 43 am I that out of touch already?
  2. I actually suggested that for this particular go-around they get a girl vocalist and do that new Avril Lavigne "Girlfriend" song. Didn't go over very well. I'm just thinking of the residual effects and benefits my kid & his 2 buddies could experience by appealing to fairer sex at this age. Just me looking out for his best interest. Maybe me wishing I was his age again?
  3. Brain Stew! Simple chords and drum beat.
  4. My boy and 2 of his buddies are in their 8th grade talent show the end of this month. He plays drums and the 2 other boys are on guitar. All are what I'd consider very good for kids of this age. The one kid on guitar is just flat out great. They need a song selection that they can get thru in approximately 3 minutes. Any suggestions? I told them to do something that everyone knows and could get into. I was thinking Rock n' Roll All Night by Kiss and chopping down the solo a bit. Keep in mind as of now they don't have a bass player. Suggestions?
  5. Hey BTMN, What does Dean call the one in the right side forefront of this pic?
  6. A tragedy. BUT..........check this site out. Lots of cool demo stuff from Boston. Enjoy. Boston Demos
  7. First Montrose album. The first 2 Boston albums.
  8. Agreed on the b/w pics. They're fantastic. Hey, I see you mentioned Mammoth. They supposedly put out one "album" (could have been a demo?). I've searched and hunted high and low for that thing since I read about it as a kid. Anybody know if I wasted my time or if one actually exists? If you have it would you care to burn a copy for me? Also, a few comments as a life long VH addict: How much more butchering can that Frankenstrat take? I can't figure out who looks worse. Ed or that Charvel! I think that guitar has taken as much abuse as: DLR, MA, GC, SH, probably Val, and certainly we the fans. I'm saddened to here that Ed and Dave were as big an asshole as BCR Greg says. I really used to idolize these guys back in the day.
  9. So what about the phase switch? Factory or aftermarket? I've not seen any other standards with one.
  10. Here's something in a music store about 3 miles from my office. Is this what these things really bring? Seems WAY out of line. Maybe $2K? By the way, what does the phase switch do? Is this a Hamer item or an add on? I'm assuming it's the small thing that looks like a toggle down near the volume controls? 1980 Standard
  11. OK. How about comments on this selection. Who should I bring home? ebay Standard Gibson #1 Gibson #2 Gibson #3 Gibson #4 I'm really liking the Hamer or Gibson #4 but would like input from you folks. I understand you're all partial to the Hamer so please try to be objective for me. Thanks.
  12. OK, not knowing much about Hamers can someone tell me if this is a real one or an imposter? Also is it an import or a USA model?
  13. Hey guys, Thanks for the response. I'll be making my decision by the end of today. I',m either going with a Gibson explorer (probably this one Ebay Gibson or a Hamer Standard. I'm still torn between the 2 pieces. Maybe you can talk me in to one or the other. Pros & cons of each? Mike
  14. Hey guys. I'm new to your board but hope someone can help me out. I've been on strat bodies (currently a Jackson Dinky DKMG) and have always wanted an explorer/destroyer bodied toy since the VH Woman and Children First days. For what I need to do with it, and from what I've been reading on this awesome message board I'd be happy with one of the import standards. They're more in my spending range anyway . I guess the Korean imports seem to get a bit better write-ups than the Chinese, so a Korean would be the play. Do any of you have one you'd want to part with? If you do, or know someone that does drop me an email. If I had to be picky I'd prefer a solid colored body (black, etc) but would consider the burst. Thanks in advance for your help. Mike
