epigram154 Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Hey guys I'm looking for the line 6 Echo Pro rack. I'm thinking of getting a digital ground control system to get all my pedals off of the floor and into a rack. Any other good sounding delay/echo rackmounts that you guys might know of I think about as well.ThanksRick
geoff_hartwell Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 Depends on what you're looking for. If you're searching for U2/the Edge sounds or something with character, the Korg SDD-3000 is the bomb. You can find em on ebay for about $700. If you're looking for pristine and heavily programmable delay and modulation a la David Gilmour the t.c. electronics 2290 is INSANELY good, but will run $1200-1500. On the opposite end of the spectrum price-wise, I also really like my Rocktron Intellifex LTD (the silverface one). It is really flexible and has a ton of programmability, should you desire. You can pick those up for a couple hundred bucks. The program mapping feature is one of the best- so if I needed patch 27 on my TriAxis and patch 86 on the Intellifex, you can hit 27 on your midi controller and if you used that function, you get whichever patch you designate immediately without tap dancing. I did a full production of The Wall where I needed to go from one sound to the next through the whole show and it worked like a charm and sounded like a dream. Hope this helps... Another thought... If you're working with a channel switching amp (head etc) check out the Replifex. It has a great feature where you can determine which channel you need as well as effects. So if you need a sound that is clean with delay and chorus, then crunchy with reverb, you only have to hit one midi button to switch. Very handy.
epigram154 Posted October 27, 2006 Author Posted October 27, 2006 Thanks for the input! I haven't checked out an Intellifex since the late 80s. I'll have to give one a listen. The main reason I'm interested in the Echo Pro is because of the tape delay sim and multi tap delay. I've been using the DL4 and it sounds good. I have a old Korg Stage Echo tape delay but it is so unreliable that I've stopped using it live. rick
geoff_hartwell Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 Well if youre looking for tape delay, the intellifex probably won't suit you. It has lots of flexibility and programmability (including programmable multi-tap), but excells at digital and pristine delays a la Gilmour. The replifex is more analog sounding, but flexible. Not for nothing, but I gave up the rack stuff (for the most part, ha ha) in favor of the Line 6 Echo Park. The thing is the best standalone delay pedal EVER. It has all the good stuff from the DL4 with all-the-time tap tempo control. As long as you don't need looping it RULES. But if you need MIDI control, you'll need something else. The Replifex is solid and you can snag one for about $150. When I worked at The Loft studios, I did a session with Larry Campbell from Bob Dylan's band (after the session he left to go to a gig at madison square garden) and he was using just the replifex in the loop of his Twin. Nothing to sneeze at!
