There's nothing "Celestion" about those Rolas. That's similar to referring to a Fiat as a Ferarri because both companies have the same parent entity.

Hey AdmiralB,

I'm selling these speakers for my friend. He has informed me that the blue speakers were pulled from an organ that he salvaged awhile back.

I thought that might be the case. They are nice speakers, if you stay under 10W each or so. But they're not Celestions.

I think your friend is being a little optimistic. If he does an eBay search he'll probably find that he's at least $30 high, per speaker.

Hey AdmiralB,

Thanks for the heads up on the speaker. I'll let him know about this. Where can I actually find some information relating to Celestion speakers any way? I would like to know about spotting authentic English Celestion speakers.

Celestion's website has some good stuff regarding date codes and the like, it's under the "Dr. Decibel" section. There are some good resources on the Plexi Palace board too.

Celestions were made only in the UK until sometime in 2002. Basically if they have the ink-stamped frame codes (date code and frame "T" number - like "T1221"), they're UK. If they have the paper label on the magnet side with the build info, they might be UK, they might be Chinese. If the upper right corner of that label says "Ipswich England", they're UK. If it just has a number "50", they're Chinese.

British Rola - part of the American Rola corp. - owned Celestion since the early 1940s at least, so technically as far as guitar speakers go there are no "pre-Rola" Celestions, when people talk about those they're referring to the text on the labels.
