Resyn - New Buying/Selling site
Hamer95USA replied to santellavision's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I signed up for an account and have placed some music gear for sale on www.resyn.com. https://www.resyn.com/user/1496/listings/myListings -
Hello HFC people, I have decided to sell off some of my amps & speakers. I would like to do a local sale, if possible. I honestly don't want to deal with shipping or the possibility of the amp or speaker being damaged by the shipping company, dealing with a disappointed buyer, etc. Here's my Craig's List posting with the details: Amps & speakers for sale If any of the HFC people are interested in my gear, please PM me. If you want to arrange for shipping, please PM me as well.

Wtb: Newport pro
Hamer95USA replied to coffeeroastee's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
I'm not affiliated with the seller, but there is a seller that is local to me that is selling a Hamer USA Newport Pro: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/msg/d/san-jose-2005-usa-hamer-newport-pro/7825382257.html -
I own and use a Marshall 6101 & Soldano Astroverb 16 combo amps, a Rocktron Vendetta, and an ADA Depot 3TM mod MP-1 preamp. I would have to say amp overdrive is the king tone!! If I have to use a borrowed amp for a jam night or as a backline (e.g. Fender Deluxe or Twin), then I would use an overdrive or distortion pedal preferably either an Xotic AC Booster or an MI Audio Crunch Box. I'd like to try the Suhr Riot one of these days though. Guitar George

What is you favorite practice amp.
Hamer95USA replied to Crimsontider's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I like practicing through either my Reverend Goblin, Soldano Astroverb 16, or my latest amp I got on a trade, my Laney Cub 12R with a Celestion Blue speaker that I installed in it. I use a Zoom G9.2tt effects processor pedalboard for effects/MIDI controller and a Lehle Dual SGOS for switching between amps. I'm enjoying playing through the Cub 12R combo amp, being able to go from clean to dirty just from the amp's gain knob, effects loop, and the 3/4 & 15 watt amp inputs which allow me to play at low volumes. Hey rugby1970, Reunion Blues (very nice, but pricey) and Mono (state of the art, expensive) are the top of the line for gig bags. I currently use/recommend a Pro Tec Contego electric guitar gig bag for one guitar. It gets the most use for rehearsals or gigs where I need to carry one guitar. They go for around $125 new or less online. For a double electric guitar gig bag, I use/recommend Pro Bag leather double electric guitar gig bag. I bought mine new for $175.00 which is far less than you will pay from either Reunion Blues ($400-$500) or Mono ($300 plus, non leather). I found the Pro Bag to be well made and durable for my needs. It doesn't have a lot of features like the Mono gig bags, but I like the stylish look. Guitar George

Great job on the restoration. Why does the finish on the side of the guitar have holes in it though? Are you relicing the guitar? Guitar George -
Opinons please: EMG David Gilmour pickups
Hamer95USA replied to morningstar's question in Ask the HFC Experts
You would have to remove the EXG/SPC module circuitboard and buy/install the SPC module and a 25K tone pot in its place which is what I did. Guitar George -
Opinons please: EMG David Gilmour pickups
Hamer95USA replied to morningstar's question in Ask the HFC Experts
Hey seeker, I bought the EMG SA pickups and the EXG & SPC modules seperately since I was trying out active pickups to see if I would like it or not. The DG pickup set has both modules integrated as one circuitboard with the pots attached to the pickguard. If you have the DG pickup set, you can't seperate the two modules unless you buy them both seperately. Single coil pickups, whether active or passive, are bright, twangy, and snappy sounding which is what most folks want in a Strat or Tele type guitars. The EXG modules emphasize more lows and highs when you turn the pot clockwise. It's great for clean tones and really brings out the lows & highs it was designed for. I eventually got burnt out on having to tweak the EXG module to get the extra lows/highs, installed a master tone pot in its place, and left the SPC module for its midrange boost for leads or to fatten things up when I need it. I basically made my EMG pickups configured more like the Vince Gill pickup set, but using the SA pickups instead of the S pickups that come with his signature pickguard. If you're interested, I'm selling the EXG module. Guitar George -
Opinons please: EMG David Gilmour pickups
Hamer95USA replied to morningstar's question in Ask the HFC Experts
I have the EMG Gilmour pickup set in my Fender Japan Strat. I've gone through numerous pickups trying to find single coil pickups that wouldn't hum or sound thin. I took out the EXG module off of the pickguard and installed a master tone pot so I have master volume, master tone, and SPC module. I found the pickups/module configuration to be a lot more versatile and only had to adjust the volume knob & SPC knobs and not have to deal with the EXG module. I'm happy with this setup and won't be changing pickups for awhile. Tomterrific stated the advantages of active pickups. Guitar George -
HFC Trade Gone Bad
Hamer95USA replied to savethematches's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
Hey savethematches, Sorry to hear that IndianScout is making a bunch of drama over a bad trade on his part. I hope you get paid and have your trade issue resolved. I definitely won't make any trades with this guy for anything on any forum ever. I noticed he uses family emergencies and other excuses to scam people on the other Internet forums. Guitar George -
Ronnie Montrose RIP (1947-2012)
Hamer95USA replied to santellavision's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I'm sad to hear that Ronnie Montrose died from a suicide. If you were from northern California and played guitar, Ronnie Montrose, Neal Schon, and Dave Meniketti was a heavy influence on guitar players in this area. One of my favorite rock guitarists with a great sounding vibrato. "Town Without" Pity", the first 3 Montrose albums with Sammy Hagar, and Gamma were my favorites. I listened to Montrose on the local rock stations which they promoted in the northern California Bay Area heavily. Yes, if you lived on the west coast, you had to play Montrose in your cover band or you weren't cool. LOL I had the privilege of watching Ronnie Montrose twice in 2004. I saw him at The Catalyst in Santa Cruz with Y&T. Then I went on tour as a road crew member for Hirax to the 2004 Swedish Rock Festival in Sweden, used my all access pass, and watched Montrose on the side of the stage, standing next to Phil Kennemore of Y&T while he was taking pictures of Montrose onstage. Dave Meniketti & his wife were on the other side of the stage watching Ronnie as well. I also got to hang out with John Nye in Sweden watching Judas Priest from the audience. I'm glad I got to see Montrose with his last lineup while he was still alive. Guitar George -
I run a 20' guitar cable into a Fryette (not VHT) Valvulator I tube buffer/power supply into my pedalboard. It's a big improvement in sound with my guitars that have passive pickups. Guitar George

Hey jisham, Congratulations on getting the Jet City amp head. Glad to hear you're happy with the tone of the amp and the performance/price ratio is quite good. You'll love the tone of that amp. If you're into amp mods, you should check out Dave Friedman's amp mods for the Jet City amps.I own a Soldano Astroverb 16 amp myself and it's high gain goodness in a low wattage package.. HAPPY ENDINGS........(the stolen Hamer Korina V)
Hamer95USA replied to TattooedCarrot's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Sorry to hear that a Navy serviceman spun out on crank stole your gear, Formula73. I'm glad that the people involved recovered one of the stolen guitars. That guy is already suffering from his addiction and is hurting himself and the people around him. Hopefully, the rest of the stolen guitars will surface and be returned to its original owner. That's why I never invite strangers over to my place for jamming, only at rehearsal studios or at their place. It wasn't your fault though as you judged that person to be of good character at that time. I wouldn't want anyone to see my gear stash either. Guitar George -
Right on, dude!! Good to see you up jamming onstage again. I thought you were still using the Cameron amp head, but your amp in the video sounded good. Is that the Californian that has the finish sanded down? Guitar George

Tell me the truth about AMPS
Hamer95USA replied to sledhead44's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Here's a picture of my 15-20 watt amp collection that I use as my home rig. I'll have to say that the Soldano Astroverb 16 1x12 combo amp with an 8ohm Celestion Vintage 30 speaker is awesome for high gain tones for low wattage. One of the best trades I've ever did. I also have the Reverend Goblin with a Jensen Neo 10" speaker for blackface cleans and the Vox AC15CC1 with a Celestion Blues speaker for that in between semi-clean/dirty tones. I switch them all with a Lehle Dual SGoS via MIDI with a Boss GT-3 effects processor providing effects & MIDI switching. Guitar George -
9's Or 10s on Studio Custom?
Hamer95USA replied to Studioplayer's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Hey Studioplayer, A few years ago I started getting some mild tendonitis on my left hand when I was using .010-.046 string sets on my guitar. I originally had the .010 string sets on my Studio & Les Paul Custom guitars, but found that it felt heavy and slowed me down since I was used to playing super Strat type guitars. I switched over to .009-.046 on my '95 Studio & my '96 Gibson Les Paul Custom. The heavier bottom strings sounds awesome with overdrive or clean chords and the lighter guage treble strings are easy to bend & feel much easier to fret when playing fast. I found the .009-.046 string set to be great for my left hand and for comfortable playability on my guitars. Try a set of .009-.046 for awhile and see if it works for you. You might like the feel & playability like I did. Guitar George -
Had a great time on the phone with Paul Hamer today.
Hamer95USA replied to BCR Greg's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
GG: Thank you for saying so many nice things about the guitar. Would that have been Spitzer Music that your friend found the guitar through? I visited them several times at the Hayward store, the San Francisco store and I think they had one other. Paul Hamer Hey Paul, I've been to Spitzer Music's Hayward store when it was still open in the late '80s & early '90s. They had a black Prototype with a Kahler tremolo that I really liked, but never bought. My friend bought his Kahler modified red flametop Standard w/crown inlays & binding from someone used. I had an '81 Ibanez Destroyer at the time and used to compare his guitar with mine. That Standard is a great guitar. I wish he didn't sell it when he moved to Colorado though. It was worth some money now. Guitar George -
I went through a wah building/modifying phase a couple of years ago when I smashed my left middle finger on a folding ladder. I modded a Vox V847 wah with an Area 51 wah inductor/true bypass/Fulltone tone pot. I also built & installed 2 Area 51 Italian wah kits into a pair of used, but broken Crybaby wah pedal shells that I bought for cheap. I love the sound of my Area 51 wah pedals! I'm interested in that CAE wah though and I like the boost/inductor selector options to change up the wah tone. I may have to cruise down to Guitar Center and try one out. Guitar George

Had a great time on the phone with Paul Hamer today.
Hamer95USA replied to BCR Greg's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Hey Paul, Great to see you drop by and saying hello to everyone. Thanks for starting up one of the best American guitar companies around. If it wasn't for my friend in Hayward, CA in the late '80s playing his modified Hamer Standard, I would have never known how great Hamer guitars actually were. Drop by again and enlighten us with some of your cool stories. Guitar George -
Since I got my SuperPro, the Studio simply doesn't get played. I was never particular about scale length before, but I really do prefer longer scale guitars. Plus, I'm in cash-out mode at the moment. Once the Studio sells, everything in the above photo except for the Marshall head will be gone. And it looks like it will, so since the "no trems or skinny necks" stipulation can be ignored, I'll offer up my Sunset Orange Big Apple Strat to those who are looking for bargains in this thread. For much less than the $800 shipped limit, too: E-mail sent!! Guitar George

I was looking at a Blues Junior for my low wattage combo amp collection. I like the 15 watt output, 3 band EQ and 1x12 combo setup, but noticed a lot of complaints in its stock configuration. You might want to check out of Bill M of Bill M Audio: Bill M Audio He's the "guy" for Blues Junior mods. If you're good with a soldering iron there's a lot of information on how to do Blues Junior mods on his website. Very cool!! No. He's referring to the Blues Junior which is 15 watts and uses EL-84 power tubes. Guitar George
