peedenmark7 Posted November 21, 2007 Author Posted November 21, 2007 seeker...bad links to the pics... I'll have to figure out how to put a pic into the body of these damn topic bodies one of these days...it is a guitar pot as far as i know...but they dont look the same as what you linked me to.maybe someone knows exactly what this is ?I kinda thought it was maybe a panel type pot? the former guitar player for the everly bros. gave me a couple of these while we were doing repair work in milw. back in the mid 80s.they are REAL smooth and easy to turn , I like them for doing swell work with a delay... if you bump your vol. knob alot, you'll hate them...you blow on them and they turn.anyway, been looking for a few for some time now and figured time to put the press on.
seeker Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 Could you post a Full size pic of the bottom w/numbers? I'm not sure if have all the numbers; have got photoshop with a bunch of filters to try and read. Believe the first few are a date code (82 would make sense for mid 80s) but believe there should probably be a 504 in there somewhere too (500k).
peedenmark7 Posted November 23, 2007 Author Posted November 23, 2007 I ended up speaking with someone at bourns on friday.would appear this pot is a panel type .the number above is the actual part number, but it being so old it does not cross directly into something current...they are going to speak with an engineer and get back to me.the pot pictured does not have the entire part number left on it...I have one in my '85 soloist and thats the number I posted, but they are the same.would love to shoot a good pic of it, but that control cavity is pretty tight.
seeker Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 Just from looks alone, it isn't your typical guitar pot. It does look an awful lot like, as they said, panel pots. I did do a look at their spec sheets, for giggles, when I thought you were looking for an NOS or good-used replacment. Of the current lineup, it looks pretty close to this one:Bourns Panel PotWhich, luckily, has an audio (log) opition vs all linear. If they can't tell from the old part number using their in-house documentation, that is definitely one thing you need to check out with a meter. The kicker is the whisper-quick rotation. Most of their current pots have more typical torque specs. Some of them have a WIDE range. Since that is one of your muy importante attractions to this particular pot, suggest you highlight that (if you haven't already) with the Bourns folks.
