elduave Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 Just got word today. 3 Colors with front arm contours and tummy cuts. Here's a pic from the last run (chambered, non-contoured, Honeyburst): Custom Creations News The ASAT Classic S is back! Now in Solid-Body with front and rear contours In 2004, the first 100 piece run of this exclusive “Special Build” model sold out within hours. Responding to demand from our dealers and G&L enthusiasts alike, in 2007 the G&L Custom Creations Department produced the second 100 piece production run of this exclusive and desirable model. Today, the Custom Creations Department is pleased to announce the latest run of just 50 pieces, this time with some exciting new twists. Once again, our dealers and G&L enthusiasts alike provided valuable feedback: it seems everyone wanted to experience a solid body Classic S, including the fortunate owners of the Semi-Hollow version from the prior production runs. The Custom Creations Department took the solid-body idea further to surprise and delight G&L enthusiasts, adding a rear tummy-cut contour and a front arm contour. Three color combinations will comprise this very exclusive run, so act fast. Orders will be taken on a first-come first-served basis, so please contact your area rep or G&L in-house rep Ron Moreno right away to secure your order before the entire run has been allocated. About the ASAT Classic S: In April 2003 the G&L Custom Creations team decided to revisit the theme established by the ASAT Classic Three, using again a third, centrally located pickup and five position selector switch. This time, however, a reverse-wound S-500 middle pickup is installed in the middle position of an ASAT Classic. The basic idea for this kind of arrangement has been long established in the Nashville session player scene, where players often install a Strat ® middle pickup in the middle position of a Telecaster ®and swap the 3-position pickup selector with a 5-way unit. The G&L Custom Creations Department decided to build an instrument similar to the formula adopted by the Nashville guys but with a distinctly G&L flavor. In particular, that means a Semi-Hollow Swamp Ash body, ASAT Classic MFD pickups in place of Alnico Tele ® pickups, and the S-500 MFD in place of the Strat pickup. The CCD team decided to ice the cake with a push/pull volume pot (changed to tone pot for run #2) that functions the same way as the S-500's mini-toggle switch, enabling additional pickup combinations of neck+bridge or all three pickups together. The "S" designation comes from both internal designation for this instrument, due to its use of the S-500 middle pickup, and "Session" in homage to the origin of this guitar configuration. hashu Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 Absolutely gorgeous top. Three SC pups is nice. Beats the hell out of my Tele Standard.
fractal Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 The S ASAT's from G&L are great. I played one the other day that was simply inspiring. I just wish G&L would let you specify a neck profile...
