santellavision Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 For Sale: Epiphone Valve Jr. Head. Modded by the best-of-the-best, Amp Exchanges Alan Cyr. (He's listed on the Mercury Mag's site) Nobody knows the Valve Jr's better, so you can trust he did the mods right! I had him install the Mercury Magnetics Tranny's as well as his 2nd tube socket mod. Now it can run a 6L6 type tube as well as a 6V6 and an EL84 at the same time! Very cool. I will include a new JJ's EL84 and JJ's 6L6 to get you started. Think of this like a THD Univalve-light amp. With the additional tube socket added, you can experiment with different tube choices to get all kinds of different tones. Cleaner 6L6 Fendery, Voxy EL84, 6V6 etc. Very simple clean signal path with only 1 preamp tube. Similar the Audiophile saying "There's nothing better than a straight wire with gain". There is no comparison to the original amp. Completely different animal. The amp looks absolutely brand-new cosmetically. Sounds crazy good for the size and price.
