Buster Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 I am just curious to know if anyone here can provide me with some information on 82 Specials.First, I'm curious to know what the neck profiles are like? I used to have a 95 Studio, which seemed to have a thinner neck and am now in posession of a 1998 BCR Burst Artist...and the neck is beefy, which I really prefer.Second, what seems to be the going value for one that is mint? I can't find anyting around to do some comparrisons. Thanks for the assistance.Erik
Guest galejt Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 The one I had was not mint but it was not trashed either. The neck was on the thin side which is why I sold it. I too like solid wood in my hand (MCC, stifle yourself!). There was one floating around here recently in the $600 range. They are sweet, sweet guitars.Jim
silentman Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 Early 80's Hamer necks can be on the skinny side. I had gotten a 81 from Kiz that had such a thin neck I swear you could have held it up to the light and saw through it. I have an early 82 that has a medium d shaped neck which is very comfortable to play. I paid $400 for my 82 which is in beaterish condition - lots of dings and rash - but was all original. I've since put a pair of voodoos in it. There aren't too many minty examples around. I'd guess you'd be in the $600 range for a clean one.
Buster Posted July 1, 2005 Author Posted July 1, 2005 Thanks for the replies...I just found out that the one I am looking at has had the headstock repaired...and the luthier who did the paint job coated the back of the headstock in black...not the cherry color that it was originally...so it looks terrible...other than that HUGE issue...the guitar seems to be in pretty decent shape with the usual nicks in it from being 20+ years old...any other thoughts on the price now?I've been told to make an offer...but I guess I don't know what's fair for one like this.
tomteriffic Posted July 1, 2005 Posted July 1, 2005 I bought an '81 with more dings in it than a wind-up alarm clock. But it was all original, no breaks or issues and I gave $450 for it. That was about a year and a half ago.
